How would something like that happen? Corrosion with a hard landing?
Usually it's a combination of corrosion (that's a low point so if there any water does get in the mount it will collect there) and lots and lots of fatigue from thousands of landings. The Cherokee 6 is known for being weak in that area. I've had to change 2 or 3 mounts due to cracks in that same area.

That and one or two nosewheel first landings can do that... this one does seem to be corroded a bit and our welder will probably end up replacing two or three tubes, he's pretty good about that.

At any rate, if you fly a 152 you should be looking at this on preflight, it sticks out below the cowling, so no excuses! ;)
