I’d much rather focus efforts on protecting the general traveling public-ie, require IFR training and equipment (and possibly autopilots) for ALL passenger carrying 135, make 121 PRIA functional, maybe tighten the screws on for-hire 91 ops...in the meantime z987s ideas about restricting what non-IFR private pilots can do make more sense to me.

Y'know, I really like the spirit of what they're going for with this video. Pretty interesting and found myself getting ideas for things I want to try with my own students.

But it took them forever to get to the point. 6 minutes of "here's what we're going to tell you" was 5:30 too long. Aggravating.

Most annoying video trend after “this video is going to turn into slow motion halfway through”

Sorry, bro, you ain’t gonna convince me that someone is better off without an instrument rating. It’s just pure silliness.
40-50k’ish peeps a year have been dying in cars for decades. Literally decades and we’re worried about every one having an IFR certificate. Call me when you’re done peeing in the ocean to change the tide.

When an 80 year old grandpa with a valid DL can’t load a 3k pound van full of 12 people and drive to their church event two hours away let me know.

Talking to the wrong guy. I’m regularly advocating (including here) for outlawing traditional cars in favor of self-driving ones. People can’t be trusted to drive. The stats are clear on that.

Well I believe I advocated in this thread to make recurrent a thing in driving to renew your license so....

Self driving cars will only work if they’re all self driving. Can’t have a mix.

They seem to be working just fine right now mixed in with the other cars. Safety is FAR better with the Teslas. It is true that the only time they seem to have accidents is when a human driver in another car screws up, though. So, like I said, get rid of the regular cars ASAP.

Or a tractor trailer and drives you under the trailer.

Except, you know, when they drive into the median and explode, killing the "driver"

This is the Jerry thread after all...

Do you really think Jerry is safer because he has an instrument rating? (I mean, he does... I think. I'm just assuming given that he opens instrument flight plans.) I reckon one could make a pretty compelling argument that for dudes (attitudes) like Jerry, having an instrument rating actually makes them more dangerous than they would be without an instrument rating.

It’s a two part problem. Obviously Jerry’s attitude is a problem which makes him more dangerous in an IFR environment. The second part is proficiency, and I don’t think any of us believe he’s actually training to proficiency. At one time, he at least possessed the minimum skills required to get his instrument rating. Minus the attitude, yes he would be a safer pilot with the instrument rating.

Well, ahhhhhh, yeah. That, er, pretty much sums up my point: A bad attitude will kill you no matter how technically proficient you may be.

I mean, if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass a-hoppin'.

And Josef Mengele was a better doctor because he went to medical school.
