I grew up in Southern Illinois (close to Carbondale) then spent about 10 years in STL. Been in Denver for the last couple years.
Oh nice I grew up near Edwardsville (lived there over 22 years), jut moved up to Alaska a few months ago. Seeing mountains instead of cornfields is a nice change.

It got above 80 once. I love it so far, the real test will be the winter.

We did get a nice string of sunny, 70 degree plus weather for about a week or so...not that I enjoyed much of it working graveyards.

I would agree the lack of daylight affects people (even Alaskans) more than the cold. Although I hate the cold more.

Go up north a bit and wait for a clear night in the winter when it’s dark enough to see. You’ll see them plenty.
That's what I've been told. I work graveyards as well, but they are switching me mornings next week to finish up training.
