People who occupy a window seat

How’s that? Never been on one.
I'm not 100% on how they work, I thought it was two polarized parts rotating from 0 to 90 degrees from each other(like a king air window), but a quick google search looks like it's some gel in the window that darkens when a current is applied.
Anyway, you have a little button next to the window to make it lighter or darker tint, but there's an override, presumably near and FA galley that can override all the pax settings. This way they can be "open" for TO and landing without having to ask anyone to do so and dark for sleep while crossing oceans and such.

I guess my question is, if you had access to the cabin lights, would you blast those full white the whole flight, or is the dim red so people can sleep, yet see enough to walk the isles ok?

Interesting. Guess I wouldn’t like to ride on those planes. Pretty crazy BS to not let the person at the window look out.

Again, the position of the window shades is irrelevant to your ability to sleep. Use a sleep mask. It’s YOUR responsibility to make sure you have what you need to sleep. It’s not the guy at the window’s responsibility to take care of you.

Europe and Asia disagree with you. A sleep mask doesn't help when you have the sun out the side of the airplane blasting in through the windows.

I feel like it's on the 380 as well, but I've only been on that twice.

These days, I rarely make it to my seat without somebody pissing me off. If one more asshat tells me what a beautiful daughter I have I'm going to take a hostage. That's my girlfriend.
I could do you one worse, my mom looks young and people think we're a couple sometimes. That, my friend, is awkward.

Why use electricity when there is natural light? Only you can take the steps to go green and save the world, Mr. Adler.

Good lord, I can sleep like a baby at 2 in the afternoon with a cloudless sky, if I need to (or drink enough).

Different situation in dispatch, but some would like it dark as night. I’ll be a mole on YOUR shift, if I get forced for the OT. When you’re on mine, though, the lights are on and the sun shines through the windows. Bosses agree, and the union, too, Sux if it melts your skin, I guess. You need the Vitamin D, though. Consider it a favor.

This is more entertaining. My girlfriend has a biracial daughter. We are commonly asked by folks if we adopted her.

I can't figure out who the racist is, if anybody. Either they can't imagine my girlfriend dating a black guy or can't imagine me dating a woman with a biracial child.

If it's going to guarantee me silence on a flight, I'm not missing an opportunity, I put a scowl on my face, point at my girlfriend, and in an accusatory tone announce that she used to date a black guy.

As it turns out, most folks don't want to talk to a racist and I get to fly in peace...unless I'm flying Allegiant.

I can't. When I'm tired I want 100% darkness. Mostly due to where I live, but I have blackout curtains in my bedroom. It's complete dark in there at noon if I want it to be.
I even carry some electrical tape to tape over the dim green LED light on the smoke detectors in the bunks.

You won’t see any light with this, and more importantly, you won’t be trying to make your problem someone else’s:

This reminds me of the anti-vax argument. I'm gonna do whatever I want and if it negatively effects other people, too bad.
If it's over 6 hours and it's anywhere near sunrise, windows should be down so people can sleep. Nothing worse than being woken up by someone opening their window with the sun just coming up on their side so it shines laser beams into your closed eyes. The European and Asian airlines more or less mandate this as a basic human decency that we clearly lack in the States.

I am beginning to wonder if everyone lives like a mole at home, or is it just on airplanes. (Enjoying the natural light coming through my picture window)
I'm downstairs in my office (yes, @SlumTodd_Millionaire - you were right, owning this place is awesome) which has big windows, but I keep the lights off most of the time. So maybe so.

The sudden acceptability of a complete lack of consideration for others shown by some people probably doesn't extend to parents bringing their spawn on to the airplane and then ignoring them to scream/deficate/vomit as is their will. Or those who use music players without headphones....

I hate those smoke detector LEDs.
