    Lehigh Carbon Community College near Allentown, PA has posted an opening for a Chief Flight Instructor.


    Date Position Open: Fall 2011
    Work Schedule: Full-Time, 10-Month
    Beginning Salary: $31,519 to $47,427
    FLSA Status: Exempt

    This position is responsible for the development and general coordination of aviation programs and will teach and assist in the development of courses in the aviation programs. Teaching responsibilities consist of flight-related courses such as private, instrument, commercial, and multi-engine, CFI/CFII ground schools, and aviation safety. Responsible for the aviation record-keeping system that monitors progress of flight students in satisfying FAA and academic requirements. Responsible to arrange and attend meetings of the Aviation Science Advisory Committee (local and national). Prepares annual reports for aviation science programs. This person is the liaison between the College and the FAA personnel and the aviation industry. Oversees and monitors the flight simulators and technicians and selects computer software for flight simulator training. This faculty position is part of the School of Technology and reports directly to the Dean of Academic Services.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Recommends changes to the instructional programs and curricula as required.
    • Keeps and submits appropriate academic records.
    • Maintains instructional effectiveness by ongoing self-evaluation and incorporating current developments in instructional and learning strategies.
    • Teaches courses in accordance with the master course outline and within the schedule of classes.
    • Assists librarians in keeping the college collections and services current.
    • Assists the college in keeping technology, facilities, and equipment current.
    • Plans with the assistance of the dean or associate academic dean, to insure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment requisite to the successful teaching of assigned classes.
    • Maintains regular office hours, as approved by the dean or associate academic dean, for consultation with students.
    • Serves as faculty advisor to student organizations (voluntary).
    • Serves as a faculty advisor to students in their program of study.
    • Recruits students for programs of study.
    • Participates in academic audits.
    • Assists in preparation of budgets for submission to the dean or associate academic dean.
    • Assists in preparation of academic schedules for submission to the dean or associate academic dean.
    • Serves on college committees and advisory boards.
    • Where appropriate, makes recommendations to the dean or associate academic dean on staffing courses.
    • Works with dean or associate academic dean and fellow faculty including adjuncts to maintain academic standards and integrity.
    • Works with new faculty in the area.
    • Actively participates in faculty development activities.
    • In addition to college-sponsored development activities, maintains professional development and stays current in his/her field of study.
    • Works with counselors, advisors, and other college staff in responding to student needs.
    • Maintains memberships in appropriate professional organizations.
    • Shares the responsibility for establishing and maintaining a college environment that values people.
    • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
    • Keeps informed on procedures to be followed in case of emergencies.
    • Discharges those additional duties normally and customarily associated with college faculty.
    • Undertakes specialized projects or perform any duties, which may from time-to-time be assigned by the vice president, dean or associate academic dean.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution required.
    • Must meet all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations for Chief Flight Instructor as prescribed under Part 141 of the FAA regulations.
    • Chief flight instructor airplane certification per 14 CFR, FAR 141 regulations required.
    • Flight Instructor experience required.
    • Competency with FAR Part 25, A/C systems, engines and structures, required.
    • Experience as a captain or pilot-in-command of turbo jet or turbo fan aircraft with a Type rating preferred.
    • Familiarity with mission of comprehensive community college.
    • Teaching experience in a community college environment is preferred, as well as experience working with diverse populations.
    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

    Work Environment
    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the classroom.
