Do they not provide housing in a "compound" like Emirates does?

My understanding is that Emirates provides a condo in a high rise for single pilots, and villas for pilots with families, all in some sort of ex-pat compound-like environment.

I didn't see that on the website, but I'll ask the crew on the way home in May.

FlyDubai does not provide housing for their pilots, so you would need to take that into account when looking at the salary. On the positive side, they have a fairly quick upgrade so it could be good for someone looking to grab some PIC time.

Housing in Dubai is slightly more expensive than the USA, that is for sure.

    Some typical rental rates are:

    1 Bedroom apartment in a nice area = $1800/month to $2300/month

    2 Bedroom apartment in a nice area = $2300/month to $2700/month

    3 Bedroom apartment in a nice area = $2700/month to $3600/month

    2 Bedroom Townhouse in a nice development = $2700/month

3 Bedroom Townhouse in a nice development = $3400/month and up

That's all in Dubai. If you want to have a 4 bedroom detached villa in a marina community that is a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from the airport you can have it for less than the price of a 2 bedroom apartment in Dubai. Apartment rental rates in Sharjah are about half of Dubai's. , which is only a 15 to 20 minute drive to the airport ( even closer for FlyDubai since they're on that side of the airport ) then rental rates. Also if you go to the les desirable areas of Dubai the rates are far lower.

There is no doubt that having company provided housing is a better deal, ala Emirates. It's not a compound by the way. There are some communities where a lot of the villas ( even all of them ) are Emirates, but when one says "compound" the image of a Saudi style situation comes to mind. I live on a regular neighborhood street without any gates or guards, as do most people in Dubai. There are gated communities, much like there are in the USA, but they are far from the compound concept of other Middle Eastern countries.
