Conspiracy Theorists/Fry\'s Electronics/Chem Trails

So after picking up Kristie from her office, we stop by Fry's Electronics to pick up some memory for our home office computer.

Of course Fry's has the "Moscow Bread Line" method of getting easily shoplifted items. I've got to stand in a long line with other people to talk to one overworked "supervisor" that has access to the keys to either get my memory or to print out an invoice of which I stand in another "Moscow Bread Line"-style line to pick up and then pay for my merchandise.

Kristie's working on a "Top Ten" list for aviation stuff for a potential "Jetcareers in Vegas" T-shirt and the gentleman behind us is eavesdropping on our conversation.

The man looks a lot like the character from "Clerks" that asks for a magazine, some soft toilet paper and then subsequentially had a heart attack in the QuikStop bathroom in the movie.

Anyway, he asks, "So you work at the airport?"

I answer reluctantly, "Um, yeah, quite a few actually!"

"What do you do?"

"I uhh, drive the 'bus'"

"Are you a pilot?"

"Yup," I answer, fully prepared to dodge questions like why his airfare is so high from Phoenix to Lower Monrovia, et al.

"Hey, so what's up with those 'chem trails'?"

"Chem Trails?" I ask. "Actually, they're contrails and I seriously doubt there's anything beyond water vapor in them."

"No no no," he responds, "there are days when they cross the sky, linger all day and people start getting sick, I've researched it on the internet. Why do some linger all day above Phoenix?"

"I dunno, but I guess it's because there's relatively stable air at that altitude along a heavily traveled airway or departure/arrival corridor."

"How high are they?" he asked.

"Well, the contrails form about 30,000 I guess, probably depends on atmospheric conditions and..."

"No no no, I've seen them as low as 15,000 feet! On the intenet, some engineer discovered that some of the waste systems on some jets were being diverted to a holding tank that had some unknown chemicals and then he was escorted out of the maintenance facility and ordered by the CIA to keep quiet".

"Wow, gee, I dunno," trying to find my shortest route out of the conversation, "My wife is an engineer and studied environmental engineering as well, Hon? Do you know anything about this?"

Kristie shook her head and knew I was trying to throw her the 'lateral'.

"What about the ability of one pilot on the ground to take control over up to four aircraft and relinquish control from the pilots?"

"Well, on the aircraft I fly, good luck! But I..."

He interrupts with, "...That's one of the theories behind 9-11 is that they were able to hack into the system and guide them into the towers and how the..."

Ah! I'm next! I ask for some RAM chips, bid adieu to the guy who obviously spends too much time listening to Art Bell/Coast to Coast AM and head to another line to pick up my merchandise.

Another 15 minutes and I've been given the WRONG memory type, but in order to get the correct type, I've got to go stand back in the "Moscow Bread" Line with the wackoes for another 15 minutes.

"Nah, come hell or high water lady, I'm not standing in that line!"

You mean you weren't there buying more RAM so you could overtake an aircraft from a common household PC, on the ground and then seed the PHX Class Bravo with Joe Q. Public's waste which had been rerouted - in mid air no less - to the number four engine on a MDC-85?

Damn Doug what were you there for, then?

Dude! You should've told him that it's all true and that if he knows what's good for him, he'll move into a cabin in the moutains. The planes don't fly over mountains you know
.

Seriously man, that nuts for the memory. BestBuy is the same way. Anymore I just buy my PC stuff over the net. Mostly because I'm in IT and when I walk into a place like that I either get stuck listening to some moron sell grandma on a $4K PC that she really doesn't need (I mean c'mon, like granny cares about a fully tweaked video card) or some guy in the store has IT radar and starts lobing questions at me (must be because I always send the sales people away and get what I need).

Man oh man. I tell you what though, if it had been me I would've had that guy living under a rock for the next decade.

I need more RAM to help with my megalomaniac dreams of taking over the world...

Muhahahahaha.. MOOOHAAHhahaah!

You would have totally freaked him out had you told him you have an "army of internet pilot operatives."

Those people are so funny

Is it wrong to laugh at a crazy person? Well some of them are probably just really gullible and not crazy.

Edit: Yeah.. I'd get stuff online, in stores it's crazy expensive.

A stick of 256 SDRam (cheap stuff) could cost 70 at BB, whereas 20-40 online..

Didn't someone post a cartoon a while back that had a guy sitting in his seat on a plane working on his laptop and on the screen it had something to do with bluetooth aquiring a new device - "Airbus 319".

Doug, could that really happen? Do you think that it's safe to have passengers flying the airplane from coach?

I'm writing my Senator.

The funniest part of the story is when you passed the ball to Kristie.... "Well she's an environmental engineer" my girlfriend would kick my a**

I agree, should have told him that you were surprised that there was a group of people out there smart enough to figure it out. Then you should have added that you were going to rat him and his einstein buddies out to the the "Men in Black" for knowing so much and that he was in real trouble now

Fry's is like heaven on earth for computer geeks.

They do have a pretty good selection and decent prices though!

However i agree with Doug they arent to efficient with helping you get all the expensive stuff out of lockdown.

That is true they do have a pretty good selection on some stuff...But their displays are horrible...Its always like a gang of little elementary kids went down every aisle....

They always miss tag displays and everytime Ive gone to buy something at frys the same Items usually has different prices on them...

Geez I wonder what their advertising budgets are.

They have like a full page color ad everyday here in the Oregonian. Do they do that at the other locations?

The one over by Kristie's office on Thunderbird has the Aztec pyramid thing going.

The one south of us in Tempe (or near Tempe at least) has the "dirty parking lot near Denny's with overweight people pushing baby carts"-theme. Kinda Wal-Marty.

The Frys by me has the Aztec pyramid too on the outside...but inside it has giant statues of characters from Alice in wonderland and has a big top inside and a cave too in the entrance....The store is also sooo dimly lit....

The Wal-Mart by me...I think its like the only one in SoCal...Its like a giant RV campsite....Everybody and their mom camps in their RVs in the parking lot.

Our Fries is themed on NASA, it a space ship in it, and debris all over the floor.

My Fry's is excellent and has no theme other than rows and rows of all the stuff I need. And I love your take on the "bread line". Your right, I don't like having to wait while they get more mem out of the Rat Cage.

As for the genius in line, I like everybody's comments on him. Maybe we can get MikeD to vapor his "chem-trails" with pizza or beer smell. He should still kill us though!
