Humph, not being able to get an operating certificate because budget cuts is pretty crappy...

...even if the last thing the market needs is another airline, that is.

I'd be willing to bet that ADI is paying Great Lakes for the privilege of using their cert, and any behalf is the fee GLA is getting. They've been doing a code-share under the name Great Lakes Jet Express on a Denver - Pierre - Watertown(So. Dakota) route for a while, ERJ 145 service.

With their announced plans, Cal Pac would be dwarfing today's remnants of GLA. The pictures say the branding is Cal Pac. Wonder what the little sticker "Operated by..." beside the door will say...

Can't understand why Cal Pac has had so much trouble in getting going. Either incompetence at the requirements and complexities of starting & running an airline, or the worst streak of luck. Think how many other carriers have received certificates, started up, and gone while Cal Pac has been stranded at the gate.

CalJet by Elite started two daily RT between Carlsbad and Las Vegas on September 29th, using CRJ 200s and 900s. Both Elite and ADI are part 121 operations, with charters as their core businesses, now being supplemented by scheduled service.

Good luck, but probably shouldn't bet the ranch.

Taking a -200 to that runway would be fine. Taking a -200 OFF of that runway would be "interesting." I think we looked at it and said "nah" to Deuce service to CLD.

Not enough inspectors, according to the linked article.

Like I said, this business needs more competition like...something...that doesn't need competition, but it's a pity that their market entry was disrupted by FAA short-staffing.

Elite flies both -200s and -700s. They talk about using either for Carlsbad, but the aircraft I've seen with CalJet by Elite stickers are both -700s (former Lufthansa CityLine birds, tray table labels still in German). CLD is a l-o-n-g way from their Melbourne FL base for aircraft substitutions!

It doesn’t matter how many passengers you fly, it only matters if you can make a profit while flying those passengers.

Omg who the F cares. Why would you still be trying to start a crappy little airline service in this day and age?

Having a touch of insanity? Because of all the airlines that are going bankrupt there may be an opportunity to pick up their routes for someone intelligent. But only idiots are the ones jumping into the ring. I should know, I was one of them.

I suspect this will fail as well. I think the idiot who was most responsible for the crash of Seaport is involved. He’s been consulting with ADI since Beardsley bought ADI with the money owed to the companies that jumped in to help Seaport near the end.

Rarely a good career or business plan, but it’s quite popular.

Because the people who attempt it think they know the secret to a successful business of offering first class service on LCC fares and they are going to take over the industry.

In other words, dumbassery mixed with hubris and a bunch of stupid.

    Yes.

The people want luxury. The people want low prices. They're mutually exclusive items.

I'd like to stroll into Ruth's Chris for $15 and have them kiss my ass while begging for my repeat business but we all know it's not going to happen. But why the economics of post 9/11 America taught consumers that this is a reasonable expectation befuddles me.

Touch of insanity? No that would be the motto for anyone that invests in this dumpster fire.

All the airlines going bankrupt? You mean PenAir? Coming in and trying to undercut and fly an EAS route that’s tried and failed, tried and failed, tried and failed is the touch of insanity.

Allegiants model is completely different btw.
