Airbus to manufacture US-assembled A320s in Mobile, AL

    Airbus announced Monday it will establish an A320 family manufacturing facility in Mobile, Ala., and expects to begin assembling aircraft from 2012 and start deliveries from 2016.

    Nice to see they were able to use the facilities still that were going to be for the KC-45A.

    This is mostly political. It isn't like Airlines look to what country a large airliner is being assembled in -- it's a global market of goods that transport themselves. But yes, its good some jobs will come of it.

    Hamburg, Toulouse, Tianjin, and now Mobile? It will be interesting to see if planes from these different regions get different reputations.

    That's my take, the job side of it. Mobile was all set for the KC-45, and when that fell through after Boeing's whining and crying, it was up in the air whether replacement work would come there. So instead of A330s, it'll now be A319/320/321 assembly. Always a good thing to have jobs come here rather than go the other direction.

    Machinest and Aerospace Workers union upset over Airbus choice of Alabama for this assembly plant.

    The bolded part below is mine. I think as far as management is concerned, it makes perfect sense to them.

    I believe EuroCopter has an assembly plant in Mobile too.

    There, as well as Dallas (or Dallas suburb) too.
