I’ve watched dudes turn to jelly after red eyes.

Pass.

I don't mind one-leg redeyes on occasion. I like a nice quiet copilot or one that has something interesting to say, but I really hate hearing 4 hours of:

"Why don't we have (whatever) in the contract, we had this at Republic"

"I'm actually sick but i got this on a green slip *cough*"

"I thought about going to the 330 but I hate flying all night"

(I squint my eyes and wake up my apple watch to see what time it is)

The worst part of flying at night is guys with apple watches, and guys with bose uflymikes. First group lights up the cockpit any time they reach for something, second group has an annoying green light shining out of the side of their head.

;)

SHOCKED!!!
Well, mine is pretty boring too.

I woke up this morning, made some soft scrambled eggs and some steel cut oatmeal.

Watched some Price is Right before heading to the gym.

Ordered a Greek salad with gyro meat for lunch off UberEats

Emptied the DynaTrap (when did effing PHX get mosquitos?!)

Took a shower and headed to PHX airport.

That my friend is a thing of the past.
Topless.
Not just a bar I know about.

As for Apple watches.
Nerds.

Carry some electrical tape. Kindly offer them a small piece. I carry it for the stupid green LED lights on ceiling in our bunks.

Most red-eyes I'm on, the first order of business is dome lights on.
Ugh, you know there's a whole beautiful universe out there and you can't see a damn bit of it. Destroying one of the best things about flying at night.
First order of business is lights off and screens as low as they can go while still being able to make out what they show.

Ugh. This is why it’s good to be king and being an FO sucks. Sitting in darkness for two hours blows. I want to read a magazine or book. Dome lights and storm lights on!

2? Try 10.

I only really care if it's a new moon, auroras or there's a astronomical event that night.
Or there's buildups we're trying to go around and we have moonlight to see them if you turn the damn lights off!

No wife/husband/family/daycare nearby to take care of the shorties while you nap?
One would think.........but I get home and I feel a certain obligation to help out. I've effectively been on vacation while my wife has been doing the heavy lifting at home. For me to come home and say "I'll see you in 2 hours after I nap" just doesn't fly.

Family? Nearby yes, but doesn't help w/kids like that.

Daycare....We avoid.

So, I'll stay an FO and fly the schedule that maximizes my ability to be home often and in the best state of mind/health to raise the kids which I truly see as my primary job now.

I flew with a captain not long ago on an early morning flight. Sun was not up yet and he turned on EVERY damn light in the flight deck. I'm talking floor, chart lights, etc.
