That's awesome Bob! Thanks for posting that again - I'm one of the new users so this was my first time seeing it. What's the back story? -Brian, I was home one night just hanging out watching a little TV in Vale, OR. I get this phone call from a lady that tells me she is an activity director at a nursing home in Gresham, OR. She tells me this story: Francis Hoopes was a pilot in his younger days, he flew a Piper tripacer. He was 80+ and he had suffered a sever stroke. She had this program called "Forget Me Not", like a wish foundation, in that she asked her residents what they wanted to do and she tried to fulfill those wishes. Francis wanted to go for another airplane ride. She said she couldn't find anyone to do it for him. A good friend of ours had dropped my name. So on the assigned date I flew the 300 miles to TTD Troutdale, OR. and gave this ride to Francis. I let him do all the flying he could and he showed everyone the tape that we took. Francis passed away about 6 months later and they played this video at his funeral. It was a great thrill for me as well to be able to do this for Francis. If you are a member of AOPA there is an article in the Oct. 2007 issue of the Flight Training Magazine under departments and WHY WE FLY. That talks about this flight. Bob |

I want to tank all of you for your generous comments. However, I don't consider myself to be a hero. I do all I can to help others, and I do all I can to promote General Aviation. I think that is the job of all fellow pilots. We can't just say let Phil do it. We need to get in and try to make GA strong in our own communities.
