| Senior Member | They had 3 out of 4 and tried to abort past V1 on a wet runway. Luckily, no one got hurt. (Info from guy that taught G/S there)

| Do you mean three out of four engines running? I thought that whatever problems you encounter with the aircraft after V1 you take into the air with you. |

| The sad thing is that that aircraft had come out of a heavy C check about 6 months earliear. I personnally X-rayd every Wing attach fittings, all 360 of them.

| What will happen to the pilot at the controls?? Loss of aircraft because of aborting takeoff after V1 cannot be a good thing for the guy... |

| Correction; Airliners are graceful and majestic machines in the air, but they make for horrible SUV's. |

"One more stunt like that and I'll have you flying cargo planes out of Hong Kong!" But that would probably be something this pilot would LIKE to do : ![]() Honestly though...Everyone survived. Is that not the most important thing? I bet he lost his job for not taking it into the air, but as an onlooker, I have to wonder if aborting was not the right thing. He ensured the survivial of him and his crew. Taking it into the air would have provided more unknowns and not have made survival as much a certainty I would think. Anyway, I am flying 4 seaters right now, so what do I know ![]()

| Old Skool | An abort after V1 could get you and your crew killed. If your aircraft operating procedures dictate that you continue after V1 and you have every reason to believe that the airplane will perform, you need to follow the emergency procedures exactly. If the pilot wasn't following SOP in this accident, the crew was lucky. Taking an airplane into the air after V1 is safer than aborting in the emerg procedures that call for it.
