I managed to get it down to 4 knots. Not sure if it was +4 or -4. ![]() It was on the same day you are referring to, except at the time we had 50 knot winds from west around 5000. |

I set the record at my flight school with -13 knots in a 152. The GPS showed us moving the opposite direction that we were facing. It was really cool to see the ground moving the wrong direction.

My first log entry is in this aircraft. It is a Antonov AN-2. NATO call sign COLT. Russian design and built by most Eastern block countries. I think China still builds them. Very interesting animal - It has a 1,000 horse power radial and can lift 12,000 lbs. Mostly used for transport, parachuting and surveillance – just in front of the rear crew door, there is a small trap door with a clear Plexiglas window underneath for viewing. With the proper head wind, you can darn near stop the aircraft mid-air.

"An interesting note from the pilot's handbook reads: "If the engine quits in instrument conditions (blind flying when you can't see the ground) or at night, the pilot should pull the control column full aft (it wont stall) and keep the wings level. The leading-edge slats will snap out at about 40 mph (64 km/h), and when the airplane slows to a forward speed of about 25 mph [40 km/h], the airplane will sink at about a parachute descent rate until the aircraft hits the ground."

Yeah, my best was 3 knots. Couldn't quite get it to go backwards. It was actually quite funny, because it was one of my student's first flights, and he didn't quite understand the concept of groundspeed. I think he figured it out after that |

I've been -2 knots in a Warrior.. It was the craziest thing to climb out and never see the view out the window change..
