Sadly, Bader field is no longer there. All the politicians are argueing over what to do with the land now. Do we build more casinos, put affordable housing (Yeah, I'm sure that will happen on waterfront property).

America's 1st Airport, gone.

[Paul Harvey time]

From the European Business News:

Dry humour of OY-WET
October 4, 2006:

Staff at Weibel Scientific, the Danish radar manufacturing company, have proved they have a sense of humour as well as scientific brains.

After making a low pass at Bader Field, Atlantic City, runway 29, the pilot of the company Citation CJ2 (registration OY-JET) returned for touch down, but landed by mistake on runway 11.

The aircraft overshot the runway and ended up badly damaged in the Intercoastal Waterway. The plane's four occupants were unhurt but had to be rescued by boat.

When the aircraft was re-registered, it can only be presumed the person doing so had a sense of humour, logging the new registration number as OY-WET.
Original plane: OY-JET
Replacement Citation Sovereign: OY-WET

And now you know...the rest of the story.

What was the deal with the engines??? Did the PIC not secure the plane before he exited??? That's all kind of strange to me. The NTSB report say's nothing about the motor's running after the passengers exited.

It's obvious the pilot was still in the airplane trying to taxi it to shore.

I think the FAA busted the pilot for not having a seaplane rating as well.
