| Forgot the Wallet What would you do if you had a 5 a.m. show, you are already running late and noticed as soon as you get to the plane you forgot your wallet with your FAA License/Medical?
What about if you noticed after reaching your first destination?

| Re: Forgot the Wallet This is pretty simple at my company. We have an exemption that allows us to fly without it as long as some pretty simple steps are followed. Essentially we'll get a form faxed to us saying we're good to go.
Doesn't everyone have this exemption?

| Re: Forgot the Wallet Most places do have it as part of their OpSpecs. There may be a few that don't.
Two thing though... It's only good for domestic operations and if you discover it AFTER you flew a leg, you best be ASAPing that bad boy. |

Or how about forgetting the whole ID badge, with everything attached! We used to have something in our OpSpecs about faxing everything, but the TSA has come to require that we have the honest-to-goodness badge. In fact, some companies will give you a "missed trip" if you forget it and can't make the flight.
I remember back as an FO forgetting my badge every so often. With dulles the way it was (G terminal memories), it was very easy to go through the day without it, with no one the wiser, especially doing down and backs to your home base.

Doesn't everyone have this exemption? | Pretty much what I do too. Handy!
However, I was working for Skyway as an FO and we got a ramp check in DSM. I couldn't find my wallet and I panicked.
So I trotted into the terminal because I "had to go urinate", caught my breath and remembered that I put my wallet in my flight kit.
Whew! |

Whew! | I dont know if its because I have been drinking tonight but Im picturing a "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" style trot into the terminal.
Anyway, carry on.

| Re: Forgot the Wallet The easyway not to forget isto put your licence, airport id badge, and medical on a QUALITY lanyard and keep it on your neck. When you get to the hotel room or when you're in the cockpit tie it onto your chart case, and after the flight or after you put your tie back on (approach), put the lanyard on. You'll never leave it in the cockpit or in some hotel..... |

| Re: Forgot the Wallet Good idea, however, I used to do that and while taking my bags downstairs to the pilot lounge, unbeknownst to me, snagged the lanyard, and ALL of my certificates, medical and ID got left behind on the staircase.
I had no idea until someone came into the lounge and started calling my name!
I like to keep particular pieces in certain places so if I lose one, I still have some of the others. |

| Re: Forgot the Wallet Even the lanyard is not invincible. This morning the wind was something 110/28GSomethingUnreasonable, and the lanyard was whipping around a bit. I guess at one point it went inverted. I was getting ready to climb aboard and noticed that the thing around my neck was empty. I'm not sure anyone is looking through the FBO windows at 1:30am, but if they were they got some serious entertainment as I scurried around the ramp collecting various official documents before they were gone for good. I think from here on out, I'm wearing a small safe around my neck. Maybe I'll start a new fashion trend a la big clocks. |

I don't know how many times I've loaded cargo only to find my lanyard fly off under some bank work.

Naw, you know I'm just kidding - I play by the rules. (Said in my best Cleveland from The Family Guy voice.)

What about if you noticed after reaching your first destination? | When I was at Polar Air Cargo, we used to have copies of the pilots company id, licenses, etc. If the pilot lost his stuff, they would call to get the copies sent out, in addition, we would call the handler to escort the pilot around.
All this would cost the pilot a case a beer

I'm not sure if TSA would still need to see another form of ID or not, most places don't seem to be checking that anymore though. |

| Re: Forgot the Wallet I just put everything in my Hat and put my hat on top of my roller board. The last thing I do before I leave the hotel room is put my toiletry kit and laptop in my roller board and if I gotta move my hat out of the way to do it the chances of me forgetting all that stuff is pretty slim. Or Jam it in your shirt pocket that you are going to wear the next day or even just put it in one of the pockets of your roller board when you get to the hotel.
Or just get a giant tattoo across your chest that says "Don't forget ID" then leave a note next to your alarm saying read whats on your chest. Memento style...
And the ticket counter thing would work but wouldn't you still need to have a picture ID to match the ticket to pass through TSA?

| Re: Forgot the Wallet Airport ID and company ID are the only things on my neck because I don't want the hassle of dealing with lost certificates. Besides its a special day when we get ramped or have the FAA jumpseating. Usually when I'm unloading the ID stays hidden under my shirt so I don't risk losing it to some Sno Go handle bars.

Are you talking about pre-9/11 when anyone could go through security?

| Re: Forgot the Wallet Our airline has that exemption in our GOM too but its actually a bit difficult to use -- well I should say that apparently there is a lot of labor intensive work on the backend to the extent where it is recommended that we go to faa.gov and print a temporary authorization to excercise airman priviledges / medical.

I had my ID's fall off my shirt in airplane once, and I didn't realize it until I had exited security. I went to one of our ticket counters, they printed out a generic boarding pass for me, I got through security, went back the plane and there was my ID, on the floor of the cockpit.
Even if you forgot your wallet, odds are you will still have your passport and you should be able to use that and a boarding pass to get through security (unless your wallet is big enough to hold your passport). |

I'm gonna have to screw things up somethin' fierce to lose all that.
