| Our flight attendant called up and said "we have an arab man praying back here, just to let you know." I said "uh, ok, is there something you wanted me to do about it? Or is it just information?" She said it was just information, so I said ok, is he still in his seat, where at, yadda yadda yadda. She said he was still in his seat in the back, and I said ok just let me know if some fool back there does something stupid to him. Then I made some flippant comment about him probably not doing that on a jet... he's probably just praying he makes it home alive. ![]() |

| Couldn't he pray earlier or later? I mean, it's not like God or Allah or whoever, is going anyplace. ![]() |

| Wow...talk about controversy... I would say no as well. I mean in all seroiousness and this was kinda mentioned before, it has nothing at all to do with my personal feelings on the matter, but the fact I have to consider I have 100+ people sitting behind that door to my back that all have feelings emotions fears and prejudices of their own. Fact is something like that would more than likely cause a problem on the plane, and for the safety of my flight crew (counting FA's to) and every passenger including the ones that want to pray, it'd be better not to stir up the hornets nest. |

| I would tell them that allah has no place on my plane. Seriously, I would tell them that there is turbulance expected and I would turn on the seatbelt sign. You would not create a problem by doing this. Infact, I would say this is by far the best remedy for the situation. After you land tell the muslims that allah must have been looking over us because the turbulance wasn't there. |

| Old Skool | Sure they're all welcome in the airplane, but most of them are gods enough to make it to YOUR SEAT. I don't see any need to let people get out of their seat and congregate in safety sensitive locations. |

| Old Skool | John you slay me. It's a safety issue. If they want to pray in their seat - go for it. I do not want them getting up, putting a blanket down in the aisle and then asking which way is east. That would create congestion in the aisle and therefore is an unsafe practice. |

| No. They can wait until we've arrived at the destination. The aircraft is not a mosque. |

| [ QUOTE ] Couldn't he pray earlier or later? I mean, it's not like God or Allah or whoever, is going anyplace [/ QUOTE ] Two reaons why praying on planes is good: 1) You are closer to God at that point. 2) If you know any pilots, definately good reason to pray. Now on the later point just do not get to know any doctors - there stories are far more scary! |

| I was reading the responses and an idea came to my head- I'm no expert in Islam, but I am sure I am right when I say that Islamic people are required to pray at some point in the morning and also in the afternoon. You said that this is a late night flight, so I would assume that this prayer would not be a required one for their religious beliefs. If they were saying that it was, I would probably be a little wary at the least. So the answer would be a big hells no. Better safe than sorry, even if some feelings get hurt in the process. |

| I have a few muslim friends and aquaintances. The rules on prayer are pretty set. There are cleanliness standards that must be met. (since I myself am not muslim I could be a bit off on the specifics) These include washing the hands and feet and the prayers are 5 times daily. I am not sure if the times are specific, but I believe there are provisions in the rules for when one cannot due to circumstances pray in the 'proper' way. |

| Old Skool | Sorry Kell that doesn't fly (lol!) The Koran doesn't specify a time zone, it specifies the position of the sun to determine the "9 hrs of the day." Actually, the old testament did it first and Mohammed stole it ![]() I'm not sure but I believe the Koran specifies praying on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th hour - 1st being sunrise and 9th being sunset. Check me on this. |
