Now that I have some free time on my hands I can get to answering some questions....

This guy remained calm in the airplane until we got on the ground and then he cut loose on me..... I won't get into details but a lot of four letter words were used about how I was arrogant and the such.

I won't go into details as far as what went on because we are both furloughed from this company as of a week ago...... no sense in rehashing the past. I will say that I questioned what he was doing twice.... trying to allow him to take corrective action and save face.... after no real response I told him that the situation was not "right" and took the controls.

Sorry to hear about your job, but now is a good time to find another one.
Listening to your version he sounds like a bad guy.

I am a new FO, and I hope I never get put anywhere near that position.

Being part 121, barring a suicidal pilot, I wont be taking the controls over, but I think I could be pushed into making a very terse statement for the CVR, while asking the captain to reconsider.

Worst story I heard was about a Air Midwest captain in a Beech 1900, who in total VMC, was heading directly for an isolated TS. ATC told him he should divert for weather, and before the FO could respond, he told the FO "They paid for a ride, they're gonna get a ride". He then made a beeline for the cell.

Wow... that is bad.
I guess my biggest pet peeve would be people who act indifferently towards the safety of the flight.... if that makes any sense. I don't think I will ever see this sort of thing again.... so I will take this as a good learning lesson and move on.

!LOL! Sounds like a farside cartoon I saw years ago. Does anyone remember a story of a captain at National Airlines, back in the 70's, who wanted to fly his 727 between the trade center towers (full of pax) and the F/O & S/O had to literally fight the captain for the controls? I don't know details but I remember my father telling me such a story when he flew for National.

Dood, if you think having a captain with a sweat problem is bad, try having a student who farts everytime he gets nervous; which is 90% of the time. I keep the window open and the cabin air blasting everytime I fly with him. He eats Thai food so just imagine.

Refer to the Chuck Norris checklist. There's gotta be something on there that will help.

When I was CFI-ing, I had a student walk in for an intro ride and wanted to sign up for lessons. I flew an intro with him and his breath smelled terrible. He reeked of garlic and whatever other spices of the food he ate. It was like in the oils of his skin and on his breath. And the cockpit stunk. I knew it wasn't a one time occasion for a few reasons which I won't get into.

Some guys are more desperate for time than others, and I gave him to another CFI. I used to cherry-pick students and if they smelled or had godawful reflexes, I'd toss 'em to someone else who could deal with it.

If I ever had a captain who reeked as bad as you described, everyone would already know about it. I'd just try to bid around him.

I had a Reservist Navy Chaplain tell me this...

He was doing a short cruise and he got roomed with one of the college instructors that had come onboard. The guy did not take a shower-on the ship no less (that is just disgusting!! And, you see it out there all the time). What he did was he had deoderant which he "showered" with...On top of that he had other hygiene problems.

This is what the Chaplain did as he did not want to offend him, but he did rattle his cage a little. He went to the Ship's Store, and bought a bar of soap, toothpaste, etc. to give to him. He then sat down with the guy and had a heart-to-heart (one-way of course) and told him what he and everyone else thought then quoted some regs on how he's supposed to take care of himself. It turns out the gentleman said he was afraid to get naked in front of other men because he was embarrassed about certain aspects of his body, so he never hit the shower. The Chaplain basically told him in no uncertain terms he WILL shower.

How would you like to be told by a man of the cloth that you are nasty?

He never had a problem with the instructor again.

This is exactly how I would deal with your situation. Now usually, but not always, profuse sweating is hypertension. He probably needs to exercise. Since I started running 9 miles a week, I don't sweat NEAR as much as I did before, and my blood pressure is now at a runner's level.
