I'd say "It's cool. . .knock yourself out."

And, if asked if I would participate (not If I would like to. . .) I'd say "No, I'm not partcipating. I'll take care of my business, you take care of yours."

I'd say the same thing. People are free to practice whatever religious practices that they want.

"I know some ultra-religious people and I think even they'd know better."

Thank you.

First of all, the guy would have to be brand new off of IOE and not know this isn't acceptable. Then, I'd tell the guy to pray before he gets my airplane (one can't pray properly and devote attention to one's job at the same time). Then, I'd tell him why politics and religion don't mix well in the cockpit (bad for CRM).

Then, I'd tell him there will be one time where I'd be joining him in prayer, and that's five seconds before we make a smoking hole in the ground.

Im with Newty on this one
But I did ride along once in a corportate trip once with a friend and it said on the checklist
"Mothers Rule"
Which meant quick prayer before take off
It was really akward to say the least

To answer the question I would tell the FO to hold off and than tell the passengers it was the FO's first day on the job and have never landed a plane with people on the back. That should get plenty of prayers for that leg.

Fine with me. I'd just ask him to make sure he doesn't delegate any of his duty's to his imaginary friend.

That said, if it came up on a 4day that my coworker was of the same religious affiliation and they wantted me to participate, I don't think I would mind. Nor would I be offended if someone of any religion wanted to have a quick moment. I agree with newty.

I can pray just as I get out of bed, on the way to airport, in the crew lounge or even quietly as I do my preflight. However, if I were the Captain and my devout Christian FO says he or she likes to pray before every flight, initially for the first time, I would pray with him or her. Afterwards, I would encourage him or her that we could pray together at the hotel before we even get our workday started.

And for the record........I am born again and lovin' it.

Strange because I am supposedly tolerant? I would tolerate his religion but it is in my personality to "dig" a little, hence the imaginary friend comment. I'm an atheist UU. Oh well. Just a little jerk in me came out. Sorry.

Mike, are you trying to say that you've got a bit of smartass in ya?
I'm obviously not tuned into the whole religion thing, since I had to ask what a UU was. Although I think I may have been a Buddhist in a former life.

Ok...not that I have to prove anything to anyone...b/c "in quietness I find my confidence & strength,"....I am born again to the belief in, teaching of, and am a follower of...Jesus Christ.

Oh!!! No my friend. My comment was not directed towards you. It was in response to EatSleepFly's comment. Believe you me, when it comes to stating what & whom I believe in...I don't get an attitude, mad or anything like that.

That's why the relationship is referred to as "personal.". Sorry, I couldn't help that one.

It's all good.

I would just say "the FO has never landed an airplane before," and leave it at that.
