Hi again guys,

Well, apparently, everything seems to be coming along great, and I'm almost sure I'll be going this summer.

I just have to confirm it from my school, and after that, I'll be registering for the summer session.

There's a small problem I'm encountering at the moment though...

See, I didn't know that for UND to provide summer financial aid, you must be planning to attend a program(s) of 6 or more credits (combined).

Well, apparently, as stated in the website, Avit 102 is a 5 credit course. That leaves me with a gap of 1 credit, to qualify for summer aid.

So I called them up—and after being bounced like to three different offices—to ask them what other course I can take along with Avit 102, they really didn't know what I'd be able to take along with it. I asked if maybe Aviation 100 (1 credit) would solve the problem, however, I was told that it's not offered during the summer...

However, the lady suggested 103 (Intro to ATC) which is, indeed, offered during the summer.

So at this point, my question is more like, are there any courses you guys would suggest me take along with Avit 102, so I could have at least the 6 credits needed to qualify for aid?

That's the only thing that's pretty much holding me back a bit at the moment...

-Oh yeah, do you know what's the deal with the tuition waivers?

I applied for a 2004-2005 tuition waiver, which I'm really hoping to be awarded. But do you know if there's such thing as a tuition waiver for the summer.

(Yeah, yeah, I know I sound like I want everything for free, lol) But I DO need the money man.

So, if any of you are kind to answer either of the questions, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Just take Avit 103 - Intro to Air Traffic Control. That class is pretty easy....

No need to freak about it.

I think if you were to explain your situation to the right people, who they might be I have no idea, maybe admissions or student services. They would be more than happy to accomodate you.

As for the other two credits I would definetely go with Intro to ATC. Probably one of the easiest (read - - blow off) courses I have taken so far, and I would suspect it would probably be even easier in the summer. Take that and all you will have to concentrate on is 102.

avit 103 should definately be taken in the summer. i can't imagine having to sit thru an entire semester of that basketbilly. it's easy and boring - definately a good one for the summer. you might also consider taking intro to public speaking or an easy general in the summer.

Did you guys even go to 103? I know in the summer you have to go once in a while, but my fall class was so crowded not it didn't matter if you showed up or not. I went twice the whole semester, showed up for the final at the end and got an A.

I like it better as a fall class because you don't have to go, and it is free past your 12th credit. So take 17 and in reality you are only taking 15. In the summer, you have to pay for every credit.

So...

...do any of you know anything about the tuition waivers? Do you know of anyone who's gotten one, etc.?

I have never heard of anybody getting tuition waivers around here except for Native Americans. So I wouldn't have the first clue on how to get them.

I think they are worried about the incoming class. It is lower than once thought, which equates to less people flying = less $$$.

But I think you are coming in at a good time, I am sure there will be some new improvements for everyone in the future and the seminoles and warriors are supposed to be getting glass cockpits. That should be fun!

werd on the glass cockpit (garmin 1000) seminole - supposed to be here in november. that's cool as hell, but i also think it will be a PITA in some ways, as you'll have to be standardized for 3 different variants of seminole, rather than the current 2 (which some people blatantly can't handle). even in the warrior, i remember as a student pilot (and low time private) i had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to work both the bendix/king and garmin radio stacks efficiently and properly. the only thing that saved me was working in mx and i got to play around with the radios for hours at a time, on slow days and weekends, in the actual plane, none of that GNS430 simulator which usually doesn't work right anyway.

It says it is, but I am quite sure you can avoid it in the summer. If not, that stinks, but what a waste of a class anyway. It should not be required, and while I am at it, either should physics!!

There are a lot of required classes that are a waste of time here. I definitely agree with Luke on Physics. That sucked and the teacher didn't incorporate any aviation into it anyway. Along with that is Air Tran. I don't think anyone in my class EVER paid attention. Most were online playing games and emailing. Gotta love UND!

Also I agree with taking 103 in the summer. I did it last summer and I went less than half the time. He canceled class the first week and the last week so it was only 4 weeks long too. We didn't have a final, just had to show up that day and sign our name on a piece of paper and ended up with an A.

you can always take physics and calculus (and a host of other classes) at the air force base. lots of people do it. 6 weeks, $400 usually. they run all the time and the credits transfer in entirety to UND.

Physics 150, which is titled Physics for Aerospace Sciences. This is probably why we think there should be aviation incorporated into it.

Here is the description:
"An introduction to the principles and concepts of physics as they apply to the study of aerospace sciences."

I did learn somethings, but it was an easy 5 credits that I put forth no effort into.

I took lots of Spanish, and although I don't remember half of it, it's helped me tremendously!!!

Well, I speak for myself. I speak and write English and Spanish, as common as it is (but very fluently). That's why I'm not too fond of foreign language classes.
