Looking at maybe going to UND for college to fly. I am going up there this summer to see how I like the campus. I was hoping some of the current students and/or alums had some places I should see or people I should talk to up in Grand Forks. Thanks a billion!

If you can, wait to visit until the fall semester begins (August 25 or thereabouts)--GFK is dead when school's out. PM me if you want some more info on UND Aerospace.

I would recommend visiting during the fall as well. I visited in summer twice and it is not at all the same. The aviation tour is good, but is quite long. The general campus tour is pretty basic. As for Grand Forks, be sure to check out the vast nothingness, plethora of bars, and rude locals. Don't forget to take in a lot of the simplot/crystal sugar/ND funk smells. And, how could I forget, be sure to stop by the buffalo farm out by the airport. If you want, I'm sure they'll butcher one right in front of you so you can have a nice meal right there. Heck, why cook it? You're in North Dakota. Okay, so it's not quite that bad in Grand Forks, but you're practically guaranteed to witness some very odd things. You just have to learn to ignore some of the stuff that goes on, or make fun of it. Don't get me wrong, UND Aerospace is a great school. As for the location, well... it will make pretty much any other place you live seem like heaven. |

I read your BIO, and if you have your instrument rating I HIGHLY recommend going elsewhere. I swear UND is not worth the extra money, especially if you are going in with your instrument. UND won't even let you exercise privilages as an instrument pilot on your cross countries. I don't mean to be a downer, but I am just putting it out there that UND might not be the right fit with your experience level. A buddy of mine just left UND to finish his commercial out of KAPA... He says the area is awesome! | |

![]() It is so ridiculous that UND makes people with their Private and Instrument, heck, even Commercial, redo their entire training! ("Oh, well UND training is far superior than your training by a 30 year Gold Seal CFI"...yeah, that's UND's attitude) Friends don't let friends get raped by UND Aerospace costs. Glad we could save another!
