| Old Skool | ok so discuss the newest scam UND has come up with... the "UND Pride Card".... basically, UND is now sending your funds and financial information to a bank that is not chosen by you, the rightful owner of the funds. youre going to have to deal with ATM fees just to get your money (there are no banks in ND for this card) you have another layer of nonsense to deal with, and hell, its not even putting the money into your own bank!! its some other organization that you may or may not wish to be putting cash to!! i know i certainly dont want MY MONEY going somewhere that I have not chosen for myself. someone was saying theres a way to opt-out on campusconnection but i have not found it yet (no surprise).... and i will be hand delivering a letter to the accounts office today stating that my financial information is to be shared with NO ONE and my funds are only to be going to ME, not a third-party!!! who else is really pissed off about this???? WHAT A SCAM

| Senior Member | It's like a debit card where there will be all associated ATM fees etc. associated with it. UND is trying to get all futuristic. Pretty interesting to watch.

this is yet another way of skimming money from students, by placing their excess financial aid money into a bank account not of the student's choosing, that has associated fees for usage, etc i think UND needs to take some business classes.... they seem totally baffled by the cost of doing business by credit (which comes out as a wash more or less)...and instead would really like to increase your fees and expenses to cover their poor business management.

| Junior Member | I'm pissed off about it. Another way the university is using student funds for their own purpose. I wonder how much cash the university will be making in interest with these Pride cards. Even 2% interest will net then some serious cash and it is basically free money for them. Good thing I'm only here for a few more months. Jump through the hoop little guy, c'mon, jump.

| Old Skool | i dont see how they legally can share my financial and personal information with a third party without my express consent. and if i SPECIFY with a nice little registered letter that i expressly DO NOT consent to sharing my personal and financial information with a third party, wouldnt they then be pretty much BOUND to not go sending my money to this stupid card place?

| Junior Member | Well, i'd have to look into the details more closely. But, as an EMPLOYEE, hence the Employee id number that is issued to you (student ID), you may be limited to what you can do. It is like going to your boss at work and saying you do not agree with a company policy. They may change it they may not. In most cases they won't. If I went to my employer and said that I do not agree with their "no weapons" policy since they can not guarantee my security to or from their premise. I think they would just tell me too bad. As I said earlier, i need to dig into the details more, but with finals and stage checks and summer school coming up, I don't think it's going to happen,

| Old Skool | pardon me but im not an employee of the state of north dakota, im a customer. companies dont get to share your financial information with third parties when you purchase a service from them. the university is no different.

| I agree with TXaviator here. I don't go to UND and I'm not a lawyer here, but it appears that UND is crossing into a grey legal area.

being a customer is the way it should be, but that is not the relationship we have with the university. don't get me wrong, I am in agreement with you on this subject.

You don't have to use the pride card, it is optional. If you don't want it, don't use it. That is what I am planning on doing.

http://www.j5mc.org/ If you look at the link to fees, the card is outrageous. They charge $.50 for pin based transactions, so good luck trying to use your "debit" card anywhere to get cash back.

| Old Skool | You have no legal action against them. Other universities have done this as well, it's total crap.

however, if i gave my money to one institution, and they turned around and gave it to someone else without my authorization, id damn sure be contacting a legal professional.

| Old Skool | I don't know too much about them since I never got financial aid from my college but I do know that one of my bank's customers did the same thing. is your name even printed on the card or is just a number? I'm not too sure how much info they need except how much to load each card. I'm sure UND spoke with their legal dept. before doing any of this.

| Junior Member | I've heard that UND will NOT be giving out excess finanical aid checks for students to pick up like in the past. Your only options are to sign up for direct deposit to your own bank or get the UND Pride Card. They want to save time and money on creating the checks which is the reason for the card. I'm not 100% sure if that is correct but it's what I've heard. |

| Old Skool | nothing wrong with that, direct deposit is way faster and cheaper.

| Newbie | Exactly... at the end of the day direct deposit is the way to go. It's fast, efficient, and there are no fees. The UND Pride Card is a pain in the butt, has fees, and is simply ridiculous. So what if the Pride Card is a little faster than direct deposit? Nevertheless, the UND Pride Card is a money-making tool for UND that preys on people who don't fully understand what is going on... another UND classic. |

| Oh that is great that it is an option. I can totally see the 50-something UND Student Services ladies say in their Manvel, ND accents "Oh jees Erik (spelled with a K) Olafsson, this is such a good waeeey tuwah learn howah tuwah bank like your Maaaaaahm and Deeeeeaaaahd do with Farmers Union Bank of North Dakota, donchya knooow." ............ "Yaaaaaaaah! You betchya! Maybe I can buy a new woodchipper with deeeat Debit Card," replied Erik. "With the card's 10% transaction fee it's a gawsh darn super deal! Oh fer cheap!" Erik then drives away home in his lifted 1993 Chevy Silverado pickup (equipped with big-rig muffler mod) to his family farm in Hatton thinking how great it will be to finally feel all technologically advanced with his new Pride Card.
