| As part of the Aviation Department Assessment Plan, each spring semester we conduct focus group lunches with aviation students in hopes of getting valuable feedback for ways to improve the aviation program at UND. You have been randomly selected to participate in a focus group lunch on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 11:30-12:30pm. The focus group will take place in Odegard Hall room 244 (the conference room right off of Odegard Hall room 200). Lunch will be provided by the department! Every year we get great feedback from students that have helped improve the aviation department’s operation. For example at one lunch students raised concerns about the Financial Aid assistance at UND, we now have a specific aviation financial aid representative. Another example of change has been with the Aviation 100 class, last year students raised concern with how the class was being taught, and major improvements were made based on that feedback for this year. There have been numerous other topics discussed and addressed as well, the department greatly values student insights. I will be part of this "insightful" process next week. I have my own gripes I will be sharing. If there is anything else you guys feel strongly about, I can try to facilitate such opinions. Oh yeah, the next round of Laptops are going to be the Latitude 630. Specs 2.0 Gigahertz Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo Processor 120GB Hard Drive DVD +/- RW drive with CD-RW 2GB RAM 14.1" WXGA+ LCD Screen Nvidia NVS 135M with 128-MB memory Four USB 2.0 Bluetooth Enabled Full Size Keyboard and Touchpad 9-cell Battery 802.11G Wireless |

| Newbie | I got invited to the focus group but can't make it... Quote:
I'm glad that they are finally getting a 14" laptop. These D820's are waaaay too bulky for my taste. But yet again, I'm an Apple person. What they should do is either distribute the new laptops in May before everyone leaves or have people trade in their old one for the new one in August. We pay a lot of money for these things and to be cheated out of four months of usage is ridiculous. We get to keep the laptop every other summer... Just another negative of the laptop program. Hopefully this will be the last round of it. One other problem at UND is the ridiculous amount of required general education courses. I get the idea behind a "liberal arts" education, but it's pointless if the mandatory courses are taught at a 2nd grade level. My high school general education classes were a LOT more advanced than the general education courses here. I'd much rather not waste my time and be able to take more aviation courses. | |

| I know a couple guys that simply refused to use the laptops provided.... so they used their own while still paying for the universities pos... good call on the classes... I would rather take a course on the economics of the aviation industry than one that is so freaking boring that you may not even pay attention. My graduation was held up for an addtiontional semester because I didn't have a 3 credit social science elective.... when I had completed over 160 total credits..... just didn't make sense to me. |
