Default Obama and Hillary in GFK

Who's going to go see them at the Alerus center?

I heard they are each gonna fly in on a 757. Watch out for the TFR(s).

Geez, the candidates will visit ND, but completely skip Alaska.

Without converting this into a "political" thread, I'll say I'm most definitely going to see them.

My instructor talked to the Secret Service yesterday, according to them, no TFRs but when the candidates are on the ramp all operations on the ramp will cease, but airborne aircraft can still perform touch and goes and stop and goes.

That's not what I heard.

Wouldn't the TFR already be in place ahead of time with a specific active date/time? They don't issue TFR's right before the event do they? I have no idea I'm just wondering. I would assume it would be announced ahead of time to warn pilots.

They can issue a TFR any time they feel like it at a moment's notice. While it would be nice to have some advance notice, if one is issued, it would probably come tomorrow morning, or even when the flight plan is filed and a time of arrival is anticipated.

As far as what my instructor told me, I am only saying what was told to him by the secret service when he was working as the SOF.

Here's what Roesler says, as of about an hour and a half ago.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

>> There will not be a temporary flight restriction (TFR) over GFK or the airport at anytime. The explanation I received is that they are not the President or Vice-President therefore, no TFR.

>> Their aircraft will be parked on alpha ramp.

>> Runway 35L/17R will be open

>> Taxiway alpha will be open

>> RESTRICTION: when the candidates are at the airport or enroute to the airport (arrival and departure), alpha ramp will be closed. This will affect our taxi routes if the 35s are in use. Alpha ramp will not be used as a taxiway during that time. This will be coordinated through GFK Tower.

Of course - this is all subject to change

It is pretty uncommon for TFR's to just randomly pop up as much as everyone thinks. Typically you will hear about it days in advance especially when politicians are going somewhere planned thats not a national disaster. I get tons of e-mails each week from AOPA telling me when there is a new one around DC.
