there was actually several people in my class this morning who were SO EXCITED that they could buy our aviation laptop for 25 dollars!!!

$3025 for a laptop you can keep

Yes you can! But only if you are graduating this semester!

Everyone is also excited about how it will cost less next semester, but that is because they are not putting Jepp Flitestar on the new computers.

I thought the purpose of the laptop program is so we can use them in our classes and use the software on it. Whats the point of keeping the program if they are taking off programs and the professors are saying close your laptops!

yeah wth is the point now? i actually LIKE flightstar and find it useful... id love to buy it at a reduced student price or something, i use it for flying outside of UND whenever i go somewhere new.

this whole deal seems to have lost the plot.

I would definitely head to Clifford to get the batteries switched out if you were to go the $25 route.

I know several students who actually like the program... I don't know why. But I guess the survey they sent out had a ton of "keep the program" responses. Again, I don't know why. I was not terribly surprised to hear that students liked it.

I think a lot of students think "the program" means having laptops in class. Pretty much everyone is for that. However, I don't know anyone that doesn't wish that they could supply their own laptop to use in class.

probably the same students who just have their parents fill up their flight account with their AMEX uber-platinum once a month, and have never seen a bill for anything during their college experience.

yeah dont get me wrong, i like the integration of technology and web-based learning.... but come on, i could have bought a laptop with ONE semester of the fee, and saved the rest of the money.

an alternative i propose would be at the beginning of each semester have a large group-buy for a laptop, to leverage some quantity and get a good discount from whatever provider.... but this should be optional for the student.

ie - take whatever computer comes with the group buy, or be responsible for finding your own.

pretty simple.

id also like to note that i voiced these concerns through the legitimate channel as well (the survey put out), and i also offered an alternative solution.
