Default Can they do this?

Can a teacher for an online class make an assignment due on a University holiday? I just noticed that I have an assignment due today!

I sent him an email (which he almost never answers) asking for clarification on the due date. He is probably on vacation somewhere while I'm doing his stupid assignment.

The answer is yes, he can pretty much do whatever he wants. I guess the next question, is how the assignment is to be turned in. If he wants it in paper form, then you have a few days. If he wants it electronically then you'd better get back to work.

one thing I learned in college...bitching doesn't get anything done. Get to work, turn in the assignment, then go enjoy your day off.

Maybe when they made the syllabus they didn't realize it was an off day.

If they did realize it, it's quite twitty.

(And you can probably either1. do it 2.not do it and hope you don't get points docked, or 3. not do it and argue and hope they see reason. Were I a student, I'd probably not do it and risk losing ten points. Were I the prof., I'd probably feel like a dink after about five students came to me to complain and not dock points.)

I did the assignment and submitted it (online). This teacher has been very difficult to work with. He doesnt answer emails often and is very slow to provide feedback. The due date caught me by surprise thats all. I'm under the impression that an assignment cant be due on a day when the university is not in session. I might be wrong though. I should go and check my code of student conduct. Either way, its been submitted.

Lemme guess, it's that stupid Microsoft Office class (ISYS 117 I think it's called) with the old gray hair guy. I was getting a C in that class because I failed to follow his difficult instructions and didn't care to abide by them either because I thought they were stupid. I just dropped the class and took it from another instructor.

Do you remember his name? I'm going to be taking the ISYS 117 next semester and I have to register on the 27th. Would be a good tip on what to avoid. PM me if you can. Thanks.

Although it seems like a joke class, it's only 1 credit...

I have to take that class next semester, too. Could you send me a PM as well? Thanks!

I am in the class now. I have the old guy and I am doing fine. The problem is that there are only 2 people that teach the class now. We will call them "W" and "P". "P" sits in on my class with "W" to learn how to do the assignments herself. Either was you get a crappy class that is completely pointless. My friend has the class with "P" and is failing because she doesn't know how do the assignments herself let alone teach it.

What are you afraid of by mentioning their real last names? Do you think you'll be sued for slander? They (the professors) are providing a product, and public knowledge about the quality of that product should be common knowledge so that the consumers (the students) can make an informed decision.

I've heard not to take the class with Wilber (or "W" as some like to call him).

I can't believe how much I hear of people strugling in this class, must be hard or the professors don't teach it well. Apparently it should be worth more than just one credit for how much work you have to do.

All the class sections I wanted to be in (11am) filled up so I'll be taking it online. Sounds like the best option for me. Or I could just wake up early and go to an 8:00am class to learn about Microsoft Word.

I had it with wilbur at 8 this semester, it was easy if you can turn on the computer. We learned such things as how the start bar works and that if your comuter freezes up, use CTRL+ALT+DEL. I gained so much from that class! Honestly, you don't have to go most of the time and all assignments are correctable to 100%. The other teacher sat in on our class all semester to learn how to do the assignments and my friend in that class hates it.

I think UND is still requiring those "how to turn on a computer" classes because they realize that there are many students like little Billy from the Olafstad family farm in Hatton, ND who has been isolated from a computer his whole life.

I disagree...One thing I learned. You payed for the class, you are well within your rights to bitch about what you pay for, if its not to your expectation. I did this numerous times. May not have worked every time, but if enough complaints came, it could change. Yes, unfortunately, profs have lots of leeway in the way they do things. I had to miss a test because of a school related trip and one would not let me make it up. He dropped the lowest test score anyway, but I was still trying to prove my point. After talking to my advisor, he said even when sports team member are gone for games, the prof really does not have to let them make it up.

There ya go. That's exactly what I did.

If you let people mow over you in life, they will take advantage. I paid the professors' salaries therefore I can address an issue I have with them all I want.
