Default PRACS

Any of you UND guys ever done a PRACS study? I see that one could come out with a good amount of extra cash, which would really help in paying for some extra hours.

Does this have any effect on a Medical Cert?

About the medical...maybe yes, maybe no. You are signing your life away, and I don't trust it, nor am i willing to take the risk. Think of it as being a human lab rat. You are better off donating plasma.

FWIW, I know a few aviation students that do/did PRACS. I couldn't tell ya if it does anything to your medical cert...

I've done a couple before. Very boring, bad food, but you get lots of moolah out of it. What I think most people don't understand about PRACS is that they don't test new drugs. Everything they test has already passed FDA testing and is out in the market already. What they test is the effectiveness of name brands vs. non-named brands. Not that that means that you won't suffer any side effects, but it's still pretty safe. Unless you have some sort of rare side effect, it shouldn't affect your medical, once you're out of the place. Depending on what the study is for, they may keep you there for a night, or for three days. I always waited till I was done with my flying for the semester to do it, though, just in case.

I remember Doc Jensen saying "go for it!" - but then I reminded myself that I'd have to be confined in a tiny bunk room full of nasty locals from East Grand Forks. No thanks - not worth the pay.

Seems too risky. In the long run it's not worth the money.

Mr. Z will add 2% to our final grade at the end of the semester if we give blood though. I guess there is a shortage...

I love Doc Jensen, he is the coolest teacher/professor I've ever had. I enjoy going to his class, looking forward to it, which is rare. Wish he taught more classes.

As for the PRACS, I agree about the too risky...what if something does not go as they planned or something unexpected happens...you'd have to live with it. I'm not sure if my health and well being is worth the couple hundred they give.

I remember this one study they had (I don't think it was in the East Grand Forks location) where they stop your heart and start it back up again... all for $30,000.

Geeze. I think that would be borderline stupid. If they offered that in ND we would have a very wealthy student body. Wealthy students, but less in total.

id do it.

but yeah it gets the Jensen seal of approval with the condition that he advised not to sign up for anything neurological, anxiety drugs, etc.

and yes the person above is correct, they are only testing absorption/elimination rates of name brand vs generic brand drugs that have already gone through FDA testing.

its pretty safe.

ive done it and would consider doing it again if i really needed cash.

I did one once, and got paid $1050 for it. It was some sort of blood pressure medication. I wasn't a big fan of being confined for a weekend though. I got a pretty bad headache because I ignored their no caffeine rule prior to the study. I think one visit to PRACS was enough for me so I doubt I'd go back unless I got really desperate for cash.
