Default University Of North Dakota Orders Cessna Citation Mustang

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA ORDERS CESSNA CITATION MUSTANG
The University of North Dakota (UND) has ordered a Cessna Citation Mustang to add to its fleet of more than 120 aircraft. The entry-level Citation jet will be used for executive travel and flight training, according to Cessna Aircraft Company, which announced the order on September 24. "We expect the Mustang to be a great recruitment tool for the school and an amazing opportunity for students as they transition from pistons and turboprops to flying jets," said Bruce A. Smith, dean of the university's John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. Cessna says UND is the first flight school in the country to order a Mustang.
I'd imagine there is going to be more "executive travel" than flight training in this thing.

Have they said anything about an anticipated delivery date? I hope this works out for the school after the thing with the Eclipse Jet fell through.

"OH my gawd, I'll get to fly a jet if I go to school at UND!"

(that's what prospective incoming freshmen will think...and exactly that their marketing idea intended)

I'm glad the Eclipse fell through. It's the biggest POS in the world.

I've had a chance to talk to a Mustang mentor pilot. He loves the plane. I toured the cockpit and sat in back. The thing is plush. The eclipse doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Mustang. One is backed by a company with decades of experience, the other is a three ringed circus.

I know who will be flying it too. Lucky SOB!

Who's gonna get to fly it?

Also, at least we now know why UND is making us pay $25 to register for every aviation course.

"Oh but it will save you money in your per hour flight costs" ...whatever! I only saw an increase. I'm so glad I got out of there before that scheme occurred.

Yeah, the ATC people are getting screwed over on that because we aren't even flying anymore

If you're smart, you would be able to figure that out on your own.

I'm sure they'll type two because with the purchase of a new airplane, Cessna gives two training slots at Flight Safety for the PIC type.

i have a guess, but there are so many higher ups i am unsure. i may have went to school and currently instruct here, but i try not to get too involved with most things

There's only so many people who COULD flight instruct in that plane. Heck, it's hard enough to get a pilot with enough hours to teach in the King Air for the Air China students.

If they do implement it in flight training, I seriously hope it won't become a required course because it would suck having to pay $1000 per hour to fly in it (price a complete guess, but I'm sure it's gonna be crazy expensive).

I have heard the Cheyenne went for $1,000 an hour if you were so inclined to fly it during its last few years.

How can you guys complain about the price at UND. What is it less than 100 and hour for the warrior and instruction is around 45. Where i am instructing a 172P is $115 an hour plus $50. With surcharges for fuel UND is typical.

Because I am a paying customer. That entitles me to speak up about the price. And if they're charging $165 where you instruct, then surely they are HIGHLY profitable. And be that as it may, I can't imagine many people actually paying that.

And now some guy is buying UND two D-Jets as well. And we have no idea what we are going to do with them.
