I guess I'll post something for the first time in quite a few days to bring some interest to these forums. How is everyone here doing? Any new ratings and certificates? Any new jobs? I just got back from a nice flight in the Beech Duchess. I went with my brother and two friends on a 5 day vacation to do some wine tasting in the central CA coast wine country. We took off from Montgomery Field and headed over to Paso Robles were we stayed at my friend's grandma's vacation condo on Lake Nacimiento...pretty fun place with lots of boating. It's supposedly the "Lake Havisu" of the central CA coast. We hit 24 wineries in three days and drove all the way down to the rural wine country of Santa Barbara county, then headed toward Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, and Paso Robles where we did some more wine tasting. My dad met up with us on Saturday and we took a tour of Hearst Castle north of Cambria... incredible architecture and work that was put into the guy's "second home". Check out the link above. We attempted to view the fireworks on July 4th in Cayucos but with that area always fogged in at night all we could see was various colors of flashes. So... overall it was an incredible vacation of windy twisty roads in the wine country, good food, and amazing scenery (with dangerous cliffs and MINIMAL signs to warn you of the 15 MPH turns ....15 yeah right haha). We also drove up Highway 1...probably the most dangerous road in CA because of the 1,000 foot cliffs that lead down to the ocean with many areas lacking guard rails...and ended up at Big Sur for lunch, then more wine tasting on Cannery Row (famous area in many of John Steinbeck's classic novels), then dinner at some small mom-and-pop seafood place in Monterey...fresh crab, oysters, and shrimp...yum yum. Today we took off from Paso Robles and flew over Hearst Castle...my dad did most of the flying (which was nice for photography purposes)...then we went back to Paso Robles, dropped him off, and headed back home to San Diego. The Duchess is an amazing aircraft... I think it handles and flies slightly better than the Seminole. Now I have 5.4 multi-time to add to my logbook, plus the 1.6 the other day. *Yay* for putting multi-time on the credit card ![]() ![]() ...sorry for rambling on but I figured some of you may want to read it

And I'm sure the entire time you were there you were REALLY thinking about GF and how you thought you'd never miss it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sounds like a fun trip. My dad lives up in Davis, CA and when driving to Santa Barbara to see my brother at college or LA to see my grandma likes to pass through areas like that. Then I would get phonecalls for 45 mins with him telling me how scenic it was. how much do they charge for airplanes out there, expecially a Duchess? |

I kinda forgot about that town the day I left …actually I really miss watching late night thunderstorms of ND.Quote:
My sister is going to UC Santa Barbara so I’ll be able to drive up there again. Yeah it’s amazing…the scenery on HWY 1 is awesome. The Duchess I rent is $165/hr wet. It has an HSI, A/P, in-dash cassette deck (I hooked my iPod up to it haha), new leather seats, and a recent paint job. I love the trailing link gear of the Duchess’

Since this form is DEAD, I'll throw something in here too. Unfortunately I will be moving there in a few weeks to join everyone in basking in the glory that is known as Grand Forks. I truly can't wait. I figured I'd ask some of you that currently reside in the area if any of you know of a house/apartment/duplex/other that allows pets over 40lbs. I'd hate to have to buy a fricking house in ND just to go to school for a year. Thanks for the help.

I just saw this on facebook... "Trust me I've checked and I know that you’ll agree, there ain't nothing like them girls from that UND! BSC girls are pretty, NDSU girls are smart, But it takes a UND girl to win a real mans heart. NDSU girls are cute, UofM girls got the dough, But when you want the hottest girls, UND is where to go. MSU girls are wild, Tech girls are fun, But when a girl's a UND Girl, You know she's #1. Search each and every college, North, East, South, or West, You'll find that those UND girls will ALWAYS be the best! So, for any one who reads this and truly wants to know: Get yourself a UND girl, and never let her go..." |

| Junior Member | One is a Lab+Rot mx and the other is a Lab+Collie mix. On a completely different subject, could some one please tell the answer to the following situation: It is Thursday evening and warm out with moderate humidity. Classes are over for the day, work is wrapped up and the wife....well, she is at home. If I strolled into a pub (hopefully they exist in Grand Forks because what the hell would I do with out them!) and surveyed the scene, what types of beers would I find? This is very improtant mind you. It may mean that I will have to have bi-weekly shipments of microbrews sent in from the west coast. Hopefully it is not the dreaded B.C.M.!!! And their associated "lite" or "light" versions. Well, thanks for any info. When I get to GF i'll let you know, maybe buy you guys a Guinness.

theres a bar down here in Memphis called the Flying Saucer which has over 200 beers on tap. last weekend their special was a microbrew from chico, ca which turned out to be pretty descent. cant really think of a place like that in Grand Forks though. you will just have to do some searching for yourself. | |

I'll do you one better. Click on Nightlife at the top, then click on tap beers to see the selection. http://thebluemoose.net/pages/framesetpage.htm |

Yup. It is a bit strange that so many students are from Washington. Out of my starting class of 25, only 3 of us are moving to UND.

| It is very rare to find an apartment complex that will allow pets. You'll have better luck renting a house from a private individual.

Sorry, I should have thrown in a couple more letters. I was trying to infer "...a van down by the river."

sorry! never heard that expression before! thing about dogs up here is that, in my opinion, dogs need a big yard to run around and play/burn off energy in and its somewhat cruel to keep them cooped up 6+ months of the year when they would get frostbite on their paws outdoors.

Yeah, my dogs are pretty important to me and my wife. Right now they have it pretty good. 50 or more acres and a pond to swim in. We are still looking for something in the area that will work.
