Default Apartments In GFK

I am going to be leaving for UND early June, probably the first. I'm going to be doing 102 and 103 during the summer, anyway I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions about apartments. A friend will join me on August 20th, so something with 2 bedroom and with a washer and dryer would be nice. I'm looking at apartments right now (not a large selection on the internet) and I bet you guys have some good advice to share. Thanks

I am always surprised how well UND draws from the Pacific Northwest.

There aren't very many apartments with washers and dryers but Legacy Apartments is an option... My apartment is 1100 sq feet, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full-sized washer and dryer, humongous bathrooms (one of them is seriously the size of a small bedroom), open floorplan, 2-car garage, dishwasher but no microwave... it's $800/mo...I obviously pay $400 since it's split between two. Pricey for the area, but it was the only place that had a 2-car garage at the time...which was a requirement for me.

The management company at Legacy is very responsive to repairs. The downside is the quality of construction is really bad. Walls are crooked, concrete slab in my living room literally slopes downward, drywall seems are visible everywhere... I was almost about to ceiling-mount my 141 lb video projector with channel strut but decided not to risk getting killed while watching porn with the damn thing crashing down on me because of a shoddy ceiling joist. ... who knows how well they're built.

If you don't have a car and can live without one I'd recommend just getting into an on-campus apartment... they're really chitty inside but I think you could deal with it for a while then decide for yourself.

I think now there are new places in the south end that have garages and w/d inside the apartment that are slightly cheaper. You might want to check these out. Tom weren't you moving to one of these places???

yeah apartment complexes here are all run by one of three companies, and none of them have discovered internet yet, so it makes it impossibly hard to find information about the apartments here.

the best ive seen is Westridge Apartments. 750 for a really nice 2/2.

good luck with your search, apartments here are among the worst ive seen anywhere in the nation. and theyre unbelievably expensive and ill-managed.

If you require a washer and drying in-apartment, that will drastically limit your options. Most of the apartments have coin operated laundry on each floor, which really isn't THAT much more of a hassle.

Another website you can check out is www.alerusproperties.com

If you get up there early enough, check out the apartments on the 2100 block of South 17th Street. Nothing glamorous, 2 bed, 1 bath, coin operated laundry, but fairly cheap (450 a month about 5 years ago). I lived there for almost 4 years, rent never went up, neighbors were nice, and the manager was a good guy (if he is still the one).

That pretty much sums it up. Poor quality, over-priced, limited amenities.

Westridge sucks.

It may be nice but 750 for a 2/2 isn't a deal in GFK without a washer/dryer.

I lived in Legacy for 2 years and it is by far the best place in town for three reasons. It has Central Air, Washer/Dryer, and at least one parking spot inside. Not one other place has all that. Most complexes have on ammenity, and it's usually none of those three

North Boyd Condo's aren't bad, no central air but big with a washer/dryer inside. Cheap too.

I suggest ya'll to find a dateline video online that talks about public laundry and how disgusting it is. They swabbed the bottom of the washer and it was all fecal matter. I will never use public laundry again (unless I wash it with alcohol prior to using).

Legacy is good for the central heating/air. I've never lived in an apartment without central heating/air. I won't live in one without it. Those box units are expensive to operate - central air is much more efficient. My electric bill rarely goes above $30/month. A friend of mine (actually he posts here once in a while) lives in North Boyd Apartments (what a stupid name) and his electric bill is consistently over $100/month ...something is wrong with that amount if he's rarely home.

Ah yes, electric base board heat FTL. My electric bill is rediculous in the winter!

My aparment as well as hallmark complex by where I live have the following:
Two car garage
Washer and dryer
Butt crack baseboard heat
crap stain wall mounted box AC unit

The washer and dryer in your own room make a HUGE difference. That was pretty much the main reason we picked this building over the other ones we looked at. Legacy is nice, but this was pretty similar and a little cheaper.

Thanks a lot for everyones help, I'll take a look at some of them. I would prefer a place with a garage so I'll take a look at Legacy. I don't think my car would like direct exposure to the intense cold, and I don't think I'm prepared to let it sit out during a snowstorm.

Yep Portland, and I have a 318 right now (not the m3 I have on avatar), hoping on getting the M3 in 3 years or so. I was thinking about dropping in a supercharger in the 318, but it's too expensive for now, rather save up for the M3.

Jackson Racing makes a great supercharger kit for your 318 (I'm assuming it's an E36 with the 1.9 liter). But yes I'd rather save up for an M3. This way you don't need to cheat with forced induction

I was looking at DASC (Downing Atlanta Supercharger) but it's ~3.5 grand, which isn't really worth it for the 318. Since I'm planning from now to buy another car soon, it wouldn't be a worthy investment. For now, I have to wire my fog lights, put in a HID kit, and re-route the air intake for a better airflow before June. Should be fun!

And yes its the e36 1.9, you know your stuff!
The 330 hp M3 could use a supercharger too! Bring it up to 400 hp.

I don't think I'm 18-19 years old, no need to make age comparisons unless you want to bring your age into factor. I live in these University apartments because they allow me to not hermit myself living far away from campus, are very cheap ([$420 + $7 utilities electricity]/2). I enjoy being on campus rather than being next to some water tower or Menards. These apartments are old, wooden paneling, cinder block walls, but I don't spend most of the time in here anyway. I like seeing people, but that's just me...

Same, I couldn't find anything online about those apartment but the new Japanese students are staying there. I am kinda of confused on the topic because I have heard its UND apartments by word of mouth, and that for a 3 bedroom the cost is $1800 per month.
