Things To Do

I've been to a few events at the Empire Arts Theatre. Some of the symphony orchestra productions are actually pretty good for a small town like this. Wanted to let everyone know about this website in case you're trying to find something to do (something cultural). The Flamenco event looks pretty cool. I'm going to that.

I know some of the things on there are pretty cheesy, but occasionally there are some pretty cool events.

I'm always to lazy to try to find out what's going on there. Then when I do find something interesting, I'm always too lazy to get the fark up and go to it. Yeah, you might call me lazy.

A few things going on this week... White Party event is tonight at Gilly's. Come dressed in ALL WHITE. This means white pants and white shirt. (no this doesn't mean white as in racism...some locals actually thought that LOL...it just means you come dressed in white)

Also, this Friday an old high school buddy is playing piano at Sanders with his group Still Fighting It. Normally he plays jazz but this time it's acoustic-rock...and they can play almost any request:

Hey all,

We're a local acoustic-rock band featuring the vocals of Jarrod Schell. We'll be at Sanders restaurant, downtown GF, again this Friday, so if you haven't heard us, this is your chance!

We love playing at Sanders because we're so close to the audience and it's such a relaxed all-ages atmosphere. The food and drinks are great, too, and after 10 is the "Late Night" menu, which is a lot less expensive than the normal dinner seating. There isn't a cover charge, either, just come as you are and if you're early enough you'll get a better table. We've been taking a lot of requests lately, too. Have some ideas for us and we'll do our best - if nothing else it'll be entertaining to watch us fake our way through Bohemian Rhapsody or Freebird... again.

Any way you cut it, here's something to do on Friday night in GF, so come on out!

With all due respect to Matt and his group, but that type of music does NOT belong in a place like Sanders. I was VERY dissapointed to hear it last time I was there. Bring back the jazzy music!
I guess it's all about conforming to local demands...

I think it's mostly that Jarrod Schell is a hot commodity when it comes to live music in Grand Forks. SFI just kinda mixes it up.

Yeah....Matt and I go way back... way back to 1995 during my freshman year of HS... I think I first met him in 1993-ish. How do you know him??? (well, who doesn't)

Oh come on Angel it's not that bad. I think it's great... any group that plays a huge variety of music on queue is a great group. From Earth Wind and Fire to Queen, they can whip anything up and interpret it with an acoustic sound... it's pretty cool.

Probably not my type of music...and yes, I understand other people love it and enjoy it very much. I just think there's a place for everything and Sanders isn't it, IMO. Matt's very talented, of course. I think the band worked well at the Blue Moose when they had that type of music going there. For Sanders, I like jazz.

How about some death metal at sanders? haha I'm thinking cradle of filth, opeth, or children of bodom sounding music. Did I just use opeth in the same sentence as cradle of filth and children of bodom? Sue me!

I played in SFI for about a year.
