Anybody know if UND has connections with Bose where they would offer discounts on the headset for UND students? Thanks all. -Jake |

I'm quite sure that's a no. A bose headset is gunna cost you about a grand no matter where you go, unless you're able to find a used one somewhere. They are nice, though! My student let me try his on, and they're very light. I personally use a lightspeed 30-3G, which I think is the best you can get for the cost. If you have the extra 400, though, you'll be happy with the bose. |

Lightspeeds for the win. I have some old 20XLc headset. It has ANR w/ cell phone input, and audio plugin. I believe I payed $350 for mine back in '04. Flying in those solo x-countries with music is one of the most relaxing things ever. I was observing Jace's flight three days ago, (same one from those pics I posted in the other thread), listening to some Brazilian Bossa Nova, and some Phil Woods jazz. Extremely pleasant flight. ![]() ...but back to the headsets deal... I like my headsets a lot minus the slight clamping pressure they have and the size. They're very dorky looking once you put them on. |

The telex stratus 50-D's or whatever they are have the best noise cancelling of any headset. Bose is a pretty close second. I bought the bose only because I didn't have the money to dump onto an ANR headset and bose has the 80/month no interest payment plan. So that was the only route I could go to get an ANR headset quickly. That or keep using a PNR for god knows how long. It's not the sound intensity that hurts your ears. It's only 70db inside an airplane. 90 and higher causes hearing damage. It's the constant droaning frequencies that damage your ears. DC makes arguably the most durable headset, but as far as comfort, I'd have to rank bose first, then telex, then lightspeeds, then the rest. For sound reduction, Telex, then bose. I'm sure a couple guys will come in here and say "screw bose, bose is suxors!". This is true for their home audio. I'd challenge anyone to compare sound quality between headsets, because really there is none. Although, I don't know if this is true or not, but the bose aviation headset uses the same speakers as the quiet comfort IIs. So maybe this is one audio niche where bose might actually sound better.Bottom line, if you have the money right away and want the best. I'd probably go with telex. If not and need to make payments, bose. Otherwise if you want to compromise a little, lightspeeds. If *drop the thing from 5000 feet* durability is your top priority, DC.

I have some david clarks I've been using for the last couple years. I'll for the durability although the gel ear seal got punctured and it left its goo all over the inside of my flight bag. That was no fun to clean up .I've been planning to upgrade to an ANR when I get my CFI and I was thinking about Lightspeed or Sennheiser - something in the 400 dollar range. I've used a pair of bose when I took a demo flight in a Cirrus SR22 and loved it but can't quite justify the $1k at this point. |

Hahaha, yeah, watch out for those gel ear seals! UNDsioux1 has an excellent story about one of those gel seals and a stage check! |

You can search the forums for my post I made a couple years ago...I think someone was asking about getting a Bose Wave Radio. Hopefully I saved their wallet's life.

It's so much for satisfying and rewarding to own an expensive product. For this reason, manufacturers overprice hyped up products to lure more gullible people into buying their products. Maybe if Bose prices its Aviation Headset X at $5000, Jace would buy them. |

LoL... Thanks all. I'm gonna wait to buy a Bose until this summer. Thought I would ask in case I could get it cheaper. Thanks! I have had the SoftComm "Silver Fox" for the past few years, and after a 5 hour cross country a couple of weeks ago I have decided I don't want something that squeezes my brain out of my ears... Yucky.

And yet another thread starts on something as simple as a question about headsets, and unsurprisingly ends on the subject of cars. ~sigh~

Oh, this thread isn't so doomed yet. Besides, the OP even said his questions have been answered and he's made up his mind, so this thread is fair game for bastardization.

The Bose was the best investment I have made in a long time. 0% financing is available! Angel, your headset is pretty nice but it is not as compact as the Bose (won't fit into the flight case as nicely ).

![]() I've yet to try the Bose headsets. I'm sure they're very comfortable. $1000 for a headset though...I can get myself another bike for that much money. ![]() I'll have to upgrade sooner or later. I'll leave this headset as a spare for passengers or whatever. | |
