Default Iowan shinnannigans

One of my friends from back home sent me this.

The storry is, one of my friends was drunk and got a ride home and left his bronco at this girls house. He gave my other friends who stayed there permission to drive it until he could get it back. So they did this! : rotfl:

Dammit I wish I could have been there. There's a longer version, but it's pretty much 3 minutes of the first jump repeated over and over. So you can imagine why the thing broke. Engine stayed running though!

Long version:

Disclaimer: The owner of the bronco has 3 other cars and this is how he drives the bronco anyway. The thing is worth 100 bucks, of which my other friends paid for after they broke it in many ways at once. haha

That's nothing compared to what they did with this Jeep Cherokee!

Wow, that was awesome. I don't care what anyone says, the jeep cherokee is the best, most versitle, most modifiable(is this a word?), most reliable suv ever made.

I love trail areas like that. It reminds me of a spot I used to *try* to take my 2wd blazer in. This always ended up in me getting high centered(Independant suspension SUCKS!!!) with one of the drive wheels spinning in the air. haha

I'd take a 4-runner or land cruiser for off-roading

I'd take the old generation with straight axels. Independent suspension is just no good for offroading. Before any of you cry "but humvees have independent suspensions", the need good stability on hard surfaces as well. Straight axels are the way to go for a dedicated offroad vehicle.

I'd choose the Mercedes G-wagen. A G230 Diesel with straight axles will do the job!

When I lived in Costa Rica, G-wagens were everywhere. A lot of people who lived in rural rain forest areas drove them... muddy roads with potholes everywhere makes driving a car through the small towns almost impossible.

Or if you're really serious...a Mercedes Unimog:

YES!! I enjoy watching these things run as much as WRC. Same kind of racing and driving styles really, except with trucks and much harsher terrain.

Bowlers are pretty neat. I'm more of a rock crawler fan though. I love the topgear episode on the bowler.

If I was going to pick a vehicle to haul ass in some crazy terrain it would probably be a toss up between a humvee and that. They'd both be pretty even I think except for speed. The bowler also has the advantage of straigh axels if you were to get airborne. That's the other no no with independant suspension and off roading. When you get in the air with a straight axel equipped car, the axel(and therefore tires) will always articulate to a flat position relative to the ground. So you can land at some CRAZY angles and not flip. This isn't the case with independant suspension. Independant suspensions will maintain the tires at constant angle during landing, so if you land even the least bit sideways, you're going to basically be landing on the sidewall of the tire, most likely causing you to flip if you're unstable enough. This is a probably the army had when they first started switching out the willy's for the humvee. It's also the reason a lot of WRC cars flip even going over the silliest looking of jumps.

Wow, what's that all about. I guess what I'm getting at is, I'd take the humvee for reliability(manly the drive train), bowler for speed, agility, and jumping the crap out of it.

i dunno what WRC youve watched but ive seen some cars land at pretty wild angles and at extremely high speeds and not flip/roll....

but then again ive seen a few do like 20 end-o's
