This year's career fair is looking pretty big. Anybody looking to apply anywhere? I see some companies are coming that usually arn't here (NetJets, Colgan, ASA, Mesaba), should have some good information. Make sure to study up, get in the sims, and update the resume-website says interviews on the spot. http://sama.aero.und.edu/conference/2007/career.html |

Sounds pretty sweet. Is this for UND students only or is it open to everyone? Will they be hiring for non-flying positions as well?

serious question for thought: jobs coming to UND looking for grads, freakin awesome! its good news that the industry is doing well and growing and that our school is recognized for its excellent flight program. however how do we get our grads and students educated so they are not victim to SJS?!?!? if we are simply pumping out SJS kids, aren't we doing a grand disservice to all the students and to the profession? anyway, this is a legit question of mine, not a rip or diss. i don't have a good answer for this one.

You think we have an instructor shortage now? Just wait two years from now when people do not need to be instructors but can actually FLY BIG JETS instead. Some of this makes me sick to think about. I honestly think most grads here are going to run straight to the regionals. UND is going to have to eventually find career CFIs to staff the program.

Sorry guys, SJS is here to stay. It is just the new trend of the industry. When you have schools like ATP and JetU just cranking out students with no time to an interview in 9 months, things like this are going to happen. Yes we have lots of kids with SJS here, but there are also many who don't. i think UND does a good job to show the aviation student all aspects of the aviation world. If you look at our job postings page, about 2/3 of the jobs are for CFIs around the country. At our SAMA conference they bring in graduates from all aspects of the industry to educate students on the airline, corporate, and other sides of aviation. I diffidently do not believe someone should go straight from the RJ class to the right seat of an RJ without any other aviation experience, but reality is that this is going to keep happening. Don't judge someone based on their decisions they make in their career. If you don't think its the appropriate route, don't take it. Thats about as logical an answer that I can come up with. | |
