Default Car fun

So I pulled into the TA travel center to get gas. I went to start to car back up, nothing. Just cranks and cranks. Oh joy! Pushing a 2800 pound car a half the equivilent of a block to the hotel parking lot is SO fun! haha So about an hour later I went out just for kicks to see if I could start it. Sure enough, started right up. I let it warm up, shut it off and it wouldn't start up again. Something doesn't like heat here. It starts cold, runs both cold and warmed up, but when you shut it off warm, it won't start again until you let it cool off. I have an idea what's causing this. Oh I LOVE electrical stuff! Makes me want to do this every time I work on that stuff.

So I'm stuck in Albert Lea at the "crap" inn at the TA travel center until tommorrow so I can take it somewhere to get it fixed.

Jason, I don't think we're gona be detailing our cars this weekend. I'm gona be taking hammers to mine. haha

That sucks man. Well, it's gonna snow/rain this weekend anyway. I doubt I'll be waxing my car this weekend. The buffing pads won't arrive on time either. Time to break out the Porter-Cable buffing beast (BuickCFI has one too I believe).

Oh it drives, but I'm scared if I tried to take it anywhere it would conk out completely in the middle of bumble #### USA.

Damn weather, I want to see how good I can get this car lookin with a buffer. One of my friends got his crap rusted out 240 looking brand new. Except for the rust holes and where he ripped the paint away from the rust. haha

Damn, you have stuff I thought haven't even been concieved yet. haha

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about automotive paint care. Just the basics, like when to use rubbing compound, polishing compound, and cleaner wax. That's all I know.

That's sort of what I like to do. I use a mild paint cleaner Meguiar's #2, then two applications of Klasse paint sealant, then another two applications of Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

Don't you love the velcro-backed buffing pads??? Very convenient when switching pads

A full 6 hours of tender loving care. Then after the work is done, a few moments admiring the shine and beauty of the car...then a relaxing spirited drive through the windy twisty roads of [insert US state with windy twisty roads here]. We enjoy every minute of it.

The longest I've ever spent was 2 hours. That was when I first bought my 87 s10 blazer. The paint was a chalk board finish and I resurected it back to show room quality with just wax. This was before I knew anything about car detailing. I'm sure it wasn't anything near as good as what these two can do.

I've been doing it by hand the whole time so far and my fingers and elbows just can't put up with it for more than about a half hour(the amount of time for one coat of wax on the olds). Maybe I'm trying to hard with the buffing pad?

Wildcat den state park, eastern Iowa. I wish I owned something more fun that I didn't care to much about to drive on these roads.

Have you seen this website?
http://www.motorcycleroads.us

Has a few listings for IA roads. Don't ask me why they list roads in ND because they're STRAIGHT as an arrow. *Oh jees, a .00001° heading change. Oh fer scary!*

www.pashnit.com is another good site.

Jeez, I should add some to that site. There's so many good ones that aren't listed on there.

Yeah, Grand forks has 4 streets with corners; 42nd S-turn, the two Columbia-Demers interchanges, and 24th street south of town. That's it, haha.

If the river is of descent size and there is a little terrain, this road wouldn't be bad to drive like an idiot on.

I've driven it. It's actually kinda cool. It's nowhere near "windy and twisty" but it has some sweeping hills and turns.

Yeah, there are no turns in this town. It is a grid designed for pickups and Grand Ams. Of the turns that do exist (and the highway cloverleaf entrances) are all turning to the right. People must replace a lot of drivers side front tires here.

Also the roads usually have broken expansion joints mid corner to really dish it to your suspension and compress your spine.

I hate the way all turns this time of year are punctuated by the sound of leftover sand & gravel sliding under the tires. Losing grip and understeering wide is lame. This is also why so many motorcycles are laid down this time of year.

these are everywhere in ND! *sarcasm

I hate that too. You should just anticipate that this is going to happen and do a quick feint prior to turning in and just drift around it! In my case, I've found that trail-braking minimises understeer pretty well.
