Default Grand Forks Water

Has anyone else noticed how fowl smelling and tasting the tap water is here lately? It used to be pretty good but now I can't even use it to rinse my mouth out after brushing my teeth.

It has this raw sewage (not even kidding) smell mixed with a huge amount of chlorine. When I turn on the shower I get a huge whiff of it too.

My roommate works for Starbuck's and he says that the water there is bad too AND that all his co-workers have complained about it at their homes. I think I'm gonna call the city on Monday because I think something's seriously wrong with the water. Four years ago I read that the city had an issue with high amounts of #### in the water (no joke)...not surprised if this is another occurance. This is wonderful.

I would not be surprised at all if something is up with it. I am fairly certain it was much better about a week ago. I drink a lot of water and would usually drink the tap. It has been much much worse the last couple days then usual.

My girlfriend came in to visit from Seattle this weekend and she was extremely disgusted when she first drank the water.

How about some North Dakotan water to wash down that great old North Dakotan food?

I walked by the "ENGLISH Coulée" this evening and it smelt horrible.

Honestly though, I use a Brita water filter for my water (brush teeth, rinse things out, etc..) I only drink bottled water here. We have a well back home, I suddenly miss that...

I can't believe we get our water from that "river". To me it doesn't seem to have enough volume to dillute all the sediments and such. So much, that I don't see how a treatment plant would be able to clean large volumes of it. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm used to living on the biggest river in the country.

As far as the taste and smell, I'm pretty sure it's their doing. Whenever a HUGE flood is predicted in my home town, they add more chlorine to the water. I'm sure that's what's going on here, but I could be wrong. I've never tasted or smelled tap water this bad before. I suck it up like a man and drink it though! haha Just go buy some GNC whey protein. You can't even tell the water is bad with a good ol' protein drink.

Is it a "sulfury" smell? If so it is from the treatment plant trying to keep up with all the run off downstream (south) from all the rapidly melting snow. Every year about this time it happens, taste like crap!

Tastes like chicken? Or is it a more foul smell?

I couldn't resist that one. Must be a California dialect.

I usually just drink tap water but it's become too fowl/foul even for me. I broke down today and bought 1 gallon of target's finest generic purified water.

I was wondering what that chlorine smell was in the shower too... i just assumed my roommate washed something in there or who knows... lol

It should start to smell pretty gross out at the airport soon if it hasn't already - when lagoon starts to thaw... eww

God, don't remind me. It's even worse on a hot day in the summer. You'll actually smell it up at traffic pattern in the summer. Oh just what I want. I'm already getting kinda sick from the heat and mild dehydration, and then that smell hits me. It's never a sick sick, just an uncomfortable sick. Except for my stage 102, I had to incomplete it it was so friggen hot. 102 on the ground, probably 115-120 in the plane I'm guessing.

they can because they bring in large amounts of "recycled water" or "already treated but not yet permitted for drinking" water to mix with it and clean it up even more than the river does. believe it or not, getting your water from a river is the best method of obtaining water because it is constantly flowing and moving the sediment around (cleaning it) until it settles to the bottom. the only problem is with the snowmelt as the plant workers never know what's going to come into the river ON the melt itself...

exactly!! every year, when the snow melts, the treatment plants have to do more checks and see what it will take to bring the water quality back down to normal standards.. it takes some fudging and that's what the change is all about. it won't be too long before it's back to being regular old tap water, but the more chlorine they put in right now, the better for your system.

uh yea.. you never want to do that, it's a guaranteed suicide.

btw, for the next 3 or 4 weeks, i'd suggest drinking bottled water.

In other words, tasting #### water is normal for Grand Forks residents.
