Default How often per week do you fly for 221 and on up in the winter and the summer?

Hey everyone. I am just curious.

I am still considering all my options and things have gone a lot better this semester after finding the right instructor.

If I do 221 and 222 over the summer? Do you fly/sim pretty much every day?

How about 323,325,414,415,416 during the fall/summer?

Thanks.

You're scheduled as a student to have 6 lessons a week. Somedays it's possible to get two lessons in.

With just a little bit of motivation, a student can finish 221 and 222 in the summer, 323 in the fall, and 325 in the spring. The important thing you have to remember in the summer, is get your cross countries done. Then the rest is smooth sailing.

Earlier this semester I was able to do 4 cross countries in 4 days for 221. As for the summer, I guess it would still depend on weather but permitting I would bet that you could fly every day. As for 416 my instructor told me the best time to do that would be after graduating and you are an instructor so you can pay the instructor rate the plane. The course isn't required for Commercial, just Flight Ed.

No matter what the flight course is, or what semester it is, you can get it done in the alotted time. I started 102 in the summer of 05', and have completed a flying course every semester since then (fall/spring/summer) -- currently doing 414. The flight templates give more than enough time to finish IMO...just remember if the weather gets bad, just sim/brief ahead.

If you don't have a 30-35 hour/week job, but then again that's my choice.

That is completely true. The only course this didn't work out for me was 414. I ran out of time and motivation at the same time. Once I decided to turn down UND's offer for a job, I've been finding it pretty tough to get motivated to finish CFI. 18 credits while taking CFI didn't help(6 more credits than the recommended 12) and 21 credits now isn't helping either. If you're finances are straight and you don't take too many credits with hard classes, you can finish all the courses on time. I've finished every course ahead of template except 222(which was during the bad weather fiasko of fall of 2005), and 415(CFI) due to me ignoring everone's recommendation on credit hours and me not preparing for the excess work. Everything kind of fell on top of me at once during the last 2 weeks of last semester.

Yes.

Some of you people who have parents that pay for your education and living expenses should really feel lucky. I never had this luxury. I'm sure many of you do appreciate it though, as you should

Yes because you two are the only aviation students who work and put yourself through school/flight training

Yes, in fact we are the only two.

Did I ever mention at all in this post somewhere along the lines of "most aviation students don't work..."?

No.

I was able to work roughly 20 hours per week for most of my college career, and finished my flight labs on time. Working nearly full time will no doubt be more difficult to schedule time to fly, but it still is possible to work/fly and still finish your flight labs on time.

Correct. At 20 hours people should be able to finish up their flight labs on time no problem.

Back to the original post for a second…

I very much enjoyed staying up here during the summers to fly. (probably my favorite semesters to fly). You can get a lot of flying done in the summer.

Doing 221 over the summer was a LOT of fun....cross-countries...flying all over tarnation...

Just don't go to Ashland, WI when it's 90 degrees and humid LOL.
