Default Help getting to UND

I plan to go to UND for a tour of the campus. But where can I find cheap deals to fly over there? What airline flys to GFK? I plan to go there in the end of June but have no idea where to look. Help! thanks.

Is united still trying to get in here? I thought I read somewhere that they were trying to get one of their regional code shares in here, but then wanted to get a mainline flight in here.

That would be sweet, I love united.

I don't know why they would. Flights on NWA from GFK are rarely full.

if you fly to Fargo, you will need a ride to get up here

You won't be going "just straight in to GFK". You'll have a LONG layover (read: 4-6 hours) in MSP, one of the crappiest airports in the US. The only advantage of flying into MSP is on your layover you can go to the Mall Of America or Ikea for some cheap apartment furniture. You can take the city tram (or whatever it's called) to the Mall for cheap.

I love convenience.

I'd rather pay a 100 to 200 more to fly where I'm going.
  • Hopping in the car for several hours to then do more traveling isn't fun
  • Driving for several hours after traveling is NOT the time to get behind the wheel
  • Parking is $$$
  • Gas for trip is $$$
  • My time is worth something to me

If the price difference is less than $200, it's cheaper to fly out of GFK than drive to MSP. Not true for FAR, but I think you get my point.

helps when you have relatives in Fargo or Minne, and when your car gets 30+mpg , but i would rather fly out of fargo because i don't want to drive 10 hours round trip

The airport authority actually has sent a proposition to Frontier to come in here, and they're kinda waiting around for an answer. If Frontier turns it down, they'll probably send the same offer to United (not that they have any reason to come here). Then after that, who knows, Delta?

Ladies and gentlemen, the primary problem with pilot careers today, not wanting to pay for the service you get.

412 bucks, round trip from SEA to GFK on the 28th of March, not a bad deal for almost 2500 miles of travel.

I always find the difference between Fargo and GFK are rarely enought to justify spending gas and parking to get to and from there. But who knows

United did fly into GFK a long time ago actually. And the current flights I'm on are usually full too. But thats usually around a holiday. Don't really know. If NW can justify bringing in 2 or 3 DC-9's in, that says something.

I am from Seattle.

If you do GFK on NWA you will stop in MSP or Detriot
If you do FAR on United you will stop in Chicago/Denver
If you do FAR on Delta you will stop in Salt Lake

when i flew to Vegas in December, flying out of fargo saved 200/ticket(2 tickets) round trip. that minus gas and free parking = well worth the savings

jace, you said there is a transit train from the airport to the mall at msp?

sigh, i wish other airlines could come into gfk to keep the fare prices down....

again, thanks for all the help!

Especially when you drive a car that gets good gas mileage, like mine

So, this is how you're going to hijack this thread? Try to steer the conversation towards cars, eh!?

Thought I'd catch it before it turns into that... haha

Yup, thats TRUE United did fly in here a long time ago, but cleaned out most of their unprofitable routes back in 98 and 99, when they were having problems with routes. Won't probably see UNITED come back because of Fargo, and the success they have had with that route.

As far at the Frontier Airlines stuff... the talks are in the works, but since Northwest Owns both gates till i wanna say end of 2007 or 2008... it'll be awhile before they get here. Plus there only gonna fly the small jets/props in here anyways so ... YUP Northwest is the only option, but I wouldn't be surprised to see American Eagle take a good look at coming up here, because it doesn't fly to any airport in North Dakota. Especially if the Frontier deal doesn't work.

Oh and Northwest really could bring in the A319/A320's in here, they have before for a short while .... but then they'd probably cut back to two arrivals and departures each day. Cause the four evenly spaced arrivals (NOT) work so well ..... So yea Northwest it is for now.

hey mine usually gets 30-31mpg on the highway @75mph, not bad for a 4100lb(full gas, 2 people, bags) car with a fairly large V6
