Fun stuff. Too bad I won't be doing that course. Don't want to spend the extra money.

i know first hand you can get Hypoxia at 12,500ft in under the 30 minutes required by the regs for you to need to be on O2. I was up there for about 15 and started to get the initial symptoms. lesson learned, next time i fly above 10,000 i am brining 02 with me!

I can second that. When I was in CFI, my instructor and I chandelled up to 12,500 and we both got a little fuzzy.

i started to feel weird after about 45 seconds at FL250 while having an exchange with ATC (unpressurized aircraft). the high altitude course is worth every penny.

I highly recommend you reconsider that decision. I've been in the altitude chamber 4 times over my active duty and reserve career in the Navy and it is absolutely some of the most invaluable training I've ever had!

It sucks that you have to pay for it, but I think you will find it well worth it. Everyone reacts to hypoxia differently and knowing what it feels like ahead of time is priceless. If nothing else it makes a believer out of you and you will never again/ever fly above 10,000 without oxygen, and you will pay a lot more attention to pre-flighting your O2 gear. JMHO!

It's cheaper to do it at your local AFB (only $50). There are many participating AF bases that offer it to pilots:
http://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/a...ce_physiology/

Plus, I graduate in May and why would I stay here for another semester just to do the altitude chamber? In addition to the $150, you'd also have to add the cost of tuition.

I agree that you should take the course if at all possible. In my time at UND, there were three classes that I thought were invaluable, and Flight Phys was one of them. Highly recommended.

Human Factors was one of the best courses I've taken here.

Yeah, I agree it would be pointless to pay tuition for the class, but the altitude chamber is indeed worth the money. Actually, though...I thought Flight Phys was one of the best classes I've ever taken at UND. Doc Jensen is just an amazing lecturer. I usually play around in my laptop for most classes but for Flight Phys, I would always put it away to hear the wealth of knowledge Doctor Jensen has to offer.™

Of all the classes I've had so far, I'd say 222 with Anderson(she had plenty of real world experiance outside of this place to share), Systems with Foltz, and Human factors with Jensen were the best. Oddly enough, english 120 was also one of the more useful classes. That teacher really turned me around in writing more creatively. Heck I almost considered minoring in english after that. As worthless as that would have been. If he's still around and you can get an english class with Lopez, do it.
