| I just want the best experiences possible. I talked to my awesome instructor today about it and he thinks combining the MSP day and night cross country would still be really long. Where are the coolest places to go in the winter time?

Flying down to MSP is a fun flight, I did it with my student last semester. I actually suggest STP instead, if you're in the warrior. It's a very nice FBO and a lot less stressful! Other favorites for most students are Bemidji, Baudette, Roseau, and International Falls (get your free jam). Duluth is a good flight too, if you are thinking of going that far. Definitely try to hit Fargo if you aren't going to any other towered airports, I usually fly there at night with my 102's cuz it looks cool in the dark.

. I also like (DVL - JMS). Or, if you're feeling for something different (JMS - DVL) . Kidding of courseI'd hit up DYT if you could get it approved (look at my avatar) Last edited by Snickersnwa; February 12th, 2007 at 21:38. Reason: added stuff...

Fargo sounds like a cool idea for the night flight.

| Is the water outside KDYT pretty frozen this time of a year? IE. Will it look like water? I would think I could get it approved considering it will be with my instructor.

Well, I don't know for sure... but on the right of the runway (as viewed when looking at my avatar) deals a lot with ship traffic. Also, I'm not sure the lake freezes over? ![]()

| For 112 we had to do a night XC. We went to Fargo and back. I would suggest it, it was pretty quiet the entire time and a really nice atmosphere at night. |

Thats my first choice if we can get it approved and the lake actually looks like a lake. Awesome picture. I am starting to pick up pace finally. Just finished 16 tonight. 17 Tommorow scheduled tommorow. 18 the next day. Solo on Thursday for 19. My instructor is telling me to go home for my birthday this weekend. I was going to stay and fly but he is having some people coming in this weekend and is taking the weekend off. My next two lessons are ground lessons anyways and I really want to do my cross country with him. He says we are in good shape for a finish before the 31st of march.

| Thanks. The instructor just makes a world of difference. With my last guy, I was struggling with situational awareness and knowing when to do what next. Now I feel like I am doing everything. My only glaring weakness is going from the last reporting point to the runway. I feel way more at ease with my new instructor. I am still leaning towards leaving UND aerospace but I haven't decided for sure. The weather has gotten a lot better so far this 2nd semester, and when you get the right instructor you can fly a lot more. How ever, there are just still a couple glaring reasons that still point to me leaving. We will see. I mentioned it to my instructor tonight and he actually didnt bash me for it. He said that he totally understands and before I could say anything he said that I would be able to fly a lot more since the weather is great. I have a question. If I leave UND, and it takes 3 weeks to get my Private temp. Do you think I would be able to start training for IR before getting my private. I would think so.

Since you're considering getting your instrument rating part 61, do you know the flight time requirements for it? Quote:

| How ever, I will not be finished with the ground school course until after the final for that class. (stupid stupid final last year. Never ever pull all nighters.)

| Junior Member | Well good luck getting it done in the summer, hot and high conditions might be a problem though because if its off the charts you can not fly. |

Do you feel like it cant be done? Most people fly in the early mornings before it gets too hot.

| That's what I did. I doubled up the day and night one. Landed at MSP and took the crew car to the Mall and had a very nice dinner there. We spent about 3 hours wandering around Minneapolis. I had a really cool instructor for 102!

| I have a buddy that instructs for UND aerospace in PHX. He says that during the summer you pretty much have to fly at 5am, otherwise like Farva said its off the performance charts. But they operate under the same rules we do. Im sure part 61 would probably let you fly, ive done it before down there. Just depends on who you want to train with. |

I know most people fly in the morning, I do that when ever I go home to Las Vegas. It gets hot there as well but the thing I am cautioning is that when it gets that hot and since you are up in a higher altitude, the aircraft does not perform very good at all. Flying a cessna 172 or a piper warrior in that kind of heat is like flying a brick.

| I second the MSP suggestion. I don't know, we were in there during their afternoon push and it didn't seem stressful at all to me. Like at all big airports, taxiing is a little more interesting, but it was pretty easy. I fly around Chicago a lot though, so that could be why I feel that way. Sounds like your instructor is pretty laid back, so I bet he'd feel the same way about going there.

| God, that reminds me of my 325 stage check. It was 102 and god knows how hot it was in the plane. It was fine for most of it since we were up pretty high, but then when it came to doing the two instrument approaches and engine cuts, it just got to me real fast. I had to incomplete the engine cuts portion of it. I probably should have unsat. We were doing engine cuts on the runway and I let the airplane swerve all over the damn place. My stage pilot was pretty reasonable though. He could tell I wasn't anywhere close to being in a condition to continue the lesson.

I'm sure everybody knows this, but you can get this time (except the 15 required hours of training from a CFII) by flying under the hood with a safety pilot.
