Outage Notification!

What is happening?
* Total power outage at ITSS

Event Date: Sunday, Feb 11, 2007
Start Time: 4:30 am
End Time: 4:00 PM

What does this affect?
* Access to all systems housed at UND ITSS. These include Campus Connection, BlackBoard (MyUND), UND web page, GroupWise, U-mail, Kronos, Uniprint, ... and all access to the Internet

Why is this being done?
* To work toward completing a major capital improvement project to triple the capacity of the campus electrical distribution system.

We regret any inconvenience that may be caused by this and appreciate your patience as we work to improve our service.

The University of North Dakota is into a major capital improvement project to triple the capacity of the campus electrical distribution system. As part of this upgrade we have had several outages of live power so that contractors can work on the system. You probably haven’t noticed anything because of the standby emergency generator we put in a couple years ago.

To finish the 2006 project by the March 31, 2007 deadline, they need to turn our power off completely to move transfer switches etc. We have had lengthy negotiations with the project engineer and contractors to minimize the outages time. Each outage requires, in addition to the electrical contractor’s time, ITSS staff working several hours before an outage to take down equipment and several hours after an outage to re-boot everything.

Just checked my U-Mail and got that lovely message! Seems like we live in the stone age here at UND. I hope access to HTML Ez is independent of ITSS, or else start downloading any slides you need especially if you have an exam on Monday. Knowing North Dakota efficiency, you might not have access to these websites for a while.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised when the mentioned "... all access to the internet." Thank god it was just limited to UND webpage, U-Mail, and Campus Connection only. Cause I practically live in Selke
