Default 221 Day XC

Anyone have any suggestions for a day 221 cross country that is 100nm or greater (I prefer as close to 100nm as possible = less $$) and that is approved for Winter Ops ZERO and BELOW. The only one close to 100nm is Fergus Falls and I'm already doing a night there.

The only one that I can think (all those factors considered) would be FFM-FAR

I would like to do GFK-4V4-BJI but I think the TCO lesson says it HAS to be 100nm from GFK Anyone know why this is and if I can get around it?

I’d say that 61.129(a)(3)(iii) comes into play here, and there is no way for you to get around it.

Due to the limited number of below zero temp airports that are 100NM away, you can ask to do your day to FFM as well.

FFM and FAR work good, just do the route...another one is BWP FAR, you have to go 100NM from Departure point...dont mess up, you'll have to do it again

Try not to worry too much about shortening the distance because aside from checking that requirement off for the lesson the TCO also dictates how much solo cross country time you're required to get. Doing a hundred mile trip wont get you close to that time. I had to do an extra cross country in 221 because of that. Also, by the time you finish 323 you need 98 hours in the commercial instrument course. Most people finish with around 85 hours and have to make up the other set of hours as cross countries. If you plan ahead now, you'll reduce the amount of hours you have to fly later...just a thought.

I am in the same boat as you were. I have 12.8 solo hours and I need 15 even though I am done with the lessons, so I am doing a 2 leg xc to either AXN or BRD to make up the time.

Out of curiosity, what's a "below zero" airport?

UND restricts the airports that are available for use when the temperature is below zero. Most of them have some sort of facility that if something were to happen the pilots can stay warm.

Airports that are magically unsafe for young UND students who can't make common sense decisions for themselves.

This particular lesson is a dual xcountry which is required by the regulations for the single engine commercial license. Requires 2 hour day (and Night) 100 NM straight line from from original departure point. There is only one solo that has a distance greater than 50 NM required, being the 250 NM straight line, commonly referred to as the 'LONG XC'
