| Anyone know what’s up with UND’s acquisition of these? I thought we were told we’d be getting both of them in January? |

The actual program for them is starting Summer semester instead of Spring semester from what I hear. Maybe UND decided to wait until the summer to get them? I wonder who will be instructing in those and how much time you get in it and the course cost.

i have a sneaking feeling it will be reserved for our international contracts. ie - UND students wont be flying them.

I actually talked to JPAL about that very subject today. Pretty much, there's no new news since the meeting that was held back before break. The Eclipse(s) is/are still coming, but there have been manufacturing delays - I didn't get an expected arrival date. #17 was supposed to be here Jan or Feb, but that's probably been pushed back. I think the second one we're getting is in the 30's, so that may take a while. As far as I know, there are no plans in regards to international contracts for it, although it could be a possibility seeing as we have a couple of King Air 90's on the way in a year or so for international students. There will be a ground school open to UND students, but no one really knows quite yet what the flying options will be. Finally, I believe it's Todd Gierke who's going to be the sole flight instructor for it, for starters anyway. The estimated cost will be 1 grand per hour, but could be reduced if it gets a lot of hours. And that's AT COST. |

| From my understanding the purpose of the course to be an introduction to VLJ's. It sounds like you will be able to purchase time in type however it wont be cheap. anyother speculation would be more heresay than anything else

*Hijack* SnickersNWA - I can't tell you how much I miss Sky Harbor! What a great little airport! And to think that my house used to look right at it from across the bay . . . Indianapolis has NOTHING on Duluth! *End Hijack*

Re-hijack… It’s one of my favorite airports that’s for sure! I also had one of the craziest cab rides from the airport to Grandma’s restaurant. She was driving us going at least 65 mph (don’t remember the speed limit there down that road, but I didn’t think it was that fast) and she was all over the road! And, she waited for us to finish dinner as she sat in the parking lot outside Grandma’s to take us back to the airport. Crazy lady, I tell ya… Anyways, that airport/scenery is phenomenal! End hijack!

If you have a copy of the Feb Flying mag, look at the cover. That's me flying the Turbo SR22 Signature Edition last July, just before Oshkosh. The airport that we're doing the low approach at? Sky Harbor! Ah, the memories . . .

Cool stuff! Will do! Never flown the SR22, but I did CFII in the SR20. I could only imagine what the SR22 is like… love that airplane! I’ll be sure to pick up a copy now

Oh, and I should say that the instructor that I was flying with took that picture! Yeah, we were just a touch high… but we were coming in from the NDB approach there! It was one of my more memorable flights… love that time of day there!

22's a great plane - but I'm a little biased. It's by far the plane that I'm most at home in right now. Just imagine the 20 on steroids!

Hmm. I suppose that's the unfortunate result of being a lucky formation pilot one month of the year! I don't think it will ever happen again since I left Cirrus a few months ago to work as a corporate pilot in Indianapolis. There aren't many opportunities for that kind of thing unless you work for a manufacturer or a magazine . . .

J/kShe let me go based on my flight time I believe. I had 220 hours at the end of 323. I know she specifically looked at my total time in my logbook before signing off, but she might have just been making sure I had enough time to fly the arrow solo. I don't see what the big deal is in going there. It's plenty long enough for the arrow. Hell it's even long enough to fit the arrow's accelerate stop distance. I know they let a few people even take seminoles in there when I was taking 325 last summer.

The biggest thing that I saw was students (experienced pilots at that) coming in high because the visual picture on the approach made them nervous. Just forget that the water is there, treat it like a normal landing (which it is), and enjoy the scenery. If you're lucky, you'll see one of the Beech 18's on floats out in the harbor!

Wow, I've heard Sky harbor is a cool airport, but those pictures look like a lot of fun, little more interesting than the iron triangle.
