Well, I finally got my Private Pilot Certificate last week! I've been waiting to get it for a long time, flying off and on since 2003. I'm in 221 now this semester, I'm worried about finishing it on time because I keep getting weathered and don't even have any time during the day to fly with 19 credits! I'm gonna try to do a couple of cross country's this week but I know I'm gonna get weather next weekend due to windchills and temps. Have yall seen the forecast for this weekend? Brrrrr!!

First off, congrats! Secondly, 221 is a pretty easy course to finish on time. The big hang ups are the cross countries (especially the long one). You can zoom through the course once you get the XC time out of the way. Make that your focus at first. Good luck.

I wouldn't worry about finishing 221 on time, you'll get it done...it's a short course.

If you have no financial worries 221 can done in no time! Just get the first 20 lessons out of the way, and you ony have to worry about the SIM flights after that. It is seriously the most fun you will ever have, since you call the shots on your solo XC's.

CONGRATS on the certificate!! and yea 221 is easy to get done on time, just make sure you are actively trying to get those XCs done on the nice days, and its a lot of fun going out and actually flying yourself around!

I liked it up until near the end(actually I'm still sitting right at the end, not done yet). I got tired of my instructor not being consistant with what he wanted me to do with my lesson plans. Re-doing the same lesson plans about 7 times(more than that on some of them) when it should have only been once or twice got old real fast. It was probably more or less the additional stress of taking 18 credits(bad idea) that combined with spending more time than neccessary on lesson plans that I got tired of.My instructor is a good flight instructor. TERRIBLE CFI instructor when it comes to critiquing lesson plans.

Oh yeah! 414 was a blast! Sure, it was a lot of work, but I put a lot of time into it and made it a great experience. I also really enjoy teaching. (combine that with flying, and it doesn’t seem like work at all) As for lesson plans… It’s nice if they follow the FAA format (would highly recommend it) but most importantly they should be outlined/arranged so that you’re comfortable teaching from it, and that will differ from instructor to instructor. | |
