My dad was trying to tell me about this trick the other day. Its a great idea especially at night. I agree that flashing your brights is a dick thing to do and I only do it after I give people ample time to look up to see that car tailgating the hell out of you. My lights on my car are pretty f'in bright too. Back in the seattle area from where I am from, I was coming home real late from being with my girl friend. I climbed up this giant hill and saw something blocking the road. I flashed my brights right into the eyes of some prick cop who starting chewing me out for flashing them at me. He was such a dick. See, I wasnt sure if the oncoming lane was just blocked or both sides were. (It was really late.) BTW, Everyone I know is jealous that our gas is under 2 bucks here. Quote:

| It's always cheaper where you can actually have competition!!!! (Unlike Grand Forks). Three people who own the local Grand Forks gas station networks = oligopoly.

I miss the old gas wars in my home town. There were always these two in particular that would just have their sign changer guys out there dang near all day changing the prices. $.20 lower than every other gas station sometimes. This was when gas was still .80-.90 cents no less.

Minne, usually is a little more expensive that up here, or very close, they are hardly ever cheaper

| Old Skool | eh, I look at having to pay a little bit extra as "not having to live in grand forks anymore" tax. Well worth it :-)

I think it's like that at all BP stations. I know in my town Shell, Amoco, Conoco, and Texico were the only ones that sold 93 octane.(that I can think of off hand) Different companies put different additives in their mix. 91 with the right aditives could be comparable to 93. I don't know for sure, I've never looked into it that far. I just know that for my car BP's 89 and another station's 87 gives me the same gas milage. Other stations 89 not so much, but my engine is designed to run on 87, not the higher ones.

As far as it not affecting gas milage, that is just not true at all. Engines make their best performance running on the octane rating the engine is designed to run. You WILL get less performance out of your engine if you run premium through an engine designed to run on the lower octane. Less performance means you have to push the engine little harder to get the performance you'd otherwise normally have if you put the right gas in in the first place, which equates to worse fuel milage. I used to believe that running premium on the highway would get me better milage and performance on those long drives home. I never really checked to see if I was getting that result until awhile ago when I checked it out. I get 29-32mpg on 87. I get 26-28 on premium.

| Yeah, like my "San Diego Weather, Entertainment, Beach, Culture, Edible Food Restuarants, and Sunshine Tax". It was exactly $200 per month (difference of my rent expense compared to Grand Forks) and WELL WORTH IT.

I seriously hope there will be minimal wind again soon: I'm starting stalls next lesson (hopefully I get weathered tomorrow!) and extra wind is the last thing I need...I think I'll leave town so I can avoid this part of my flight training all together...
