As far as the flying goes here at UND. How far away do you get to fly on X-Country.

That's pretty much up to you! There is a list of approved aiports that extends to about 270 miles away (Wisconsin), but if there's another airport you want to go to, you can probably get it approved. Most students in 102 keep it between 50 to 100 miles from Grand Forks, but you have options. My 102 and I flew down to St. Paul, MN for his cross country flights and it was a great time. Once you get to 221, you're required to fly a 250 mile leg to an airport.

I've been trying to fly to my hometown since 221. Probably won't get a chance to do that now that I'm well past 323, unless I end up working here. It wasn't an approval thing either, all 3 time that I tried, I got the route and the overnight down there approved. It was always a weather and time issue that stopped me. Davenport Iowa is 400 some miles away, so yeah, you can get a long ways away from here if you want to.

That sucks man. I remember some other friend from Iowa that got his route/overnight approved, and couldn't go for several weeks, but got lucky one weekend and made it work. That'd be a fun x-country for sure.

If i recall correctly...it seems like st. louis is even on the approved list?! That's a pretty good distance...

All that being "approved" means is that UND has verfied that the airport has the proper maintenance facilities, runway length/condition, etc. in case something were to happen. You can easily get pretty much anything approved if you just go print out an AirNav sheet on the airport you are going to, and take it to the manager on duty.

So yeah, like others have said...as far as the wallet will take you

Even my home airport is on the list. Good ol' Olathe, KS. A measly 100,000 resident suberb of Kansas City. OJC-Olathe, Johnson COunty Executive. It would be great to fly there for a XC, since I live right across the street.

Yeah, see, i think if somebody flies there...it then appears on the next version of the "approved airport" list.
