you will have to provide your own. but UND does have a student store in which to get all of your stuff. You can go there or go to sportys or whereever you can get pilot supplies. Be careful to make srue that its exactly whats being used for the course that you are in.you will however have to get UND P&P from UND. hope this helps.

The UND bookstore prices are often overpriced, but some items may be cheaper.

Always get your updated charts/AFDs at GFK Flight Support. It's cheaper than UND's bookstore and you get an additional 10% off student discount.

Buy your headsets online. It'll most likely be cheaper. GFK Flight Support even has 10% off on headsets if you're a student, so check to see if it might even cheaper there even though you're paying sales tax.

shop around for your equipment (headset, bag, kneeboard) but just out of pure convenience i do pick up my updated charts and stuff at the UND airport bookstore/supply.

i would buy your headset and bag at your own leisure, but all the other doodads and thingybobbers i would wait and get with your instructor before purchasing.

and make sure you have a couple pairs of sunglasses!!!

the white snow sucks all hell on your eyes here.... and youll probably lose a few pairs of sunglasses too...

i prefer to go with the $5 walmart variety!

My Avcomm AC900PNR works great. A lot of people go with the Jeppesen bags. I have an ASA bag just because I got a good deal on it. The bag you get will depend on how much stuff you want to carry with you. Check out mypilotstore.com for some good deals.

I'm one of those evil jerks that has a bose headset. They aren't the best for their noise cancelling anymore. Telex and their stratus 30Ds, or whatever they're called took that title away. I bought them for comfort and I think they're still the most comfortable headset I've ever worn. The only reason I bought them was because of their 80 dollar/month for 12 months payment plan with no interest. I really needed to get an ANR headset, and didn't have the 400-700(1000 for the bose) dollars to shell out. Bose home entertainment is WAY to expensive for what you get and most people that can tell the difference will say bose is junk. The headset has been well worth it so far.

You don't have to get a bose, or even a telex that costs 700-1000 dollars. There are other brands that offer ANR capability. I'd wait till after 102 to sink your money into one of these so that you know flying is something you want to do and you won't have potentially wasted your money. As far as protecting your hearing, ANR is only benificial if you fly frequently. You won't really get the adverse affects on your hearing with a regular headset if you fly once or twice a month.

headsets: ill avoid the bose discussion altogether, except for saying i dont think its any new student's wise decision to go spend 1000 bucks on a headset.

i can reccommend my david clark 13.4. they are built like a tank, loud, clear, gel ear seals, but they do grip the head a bit tight.

bags: i have the jepp bag but i find it a bit big and bulky. the dividers on the inside dont stay positioned for #### either. quality of construction is good, but its just a bit bigger than i want/need. i think AOPA is giving out free bags right now too if you havent joined them yet.

Sigtronics S 58 or S68 are very nice headsets. i did the oregon aero ear seal and foam upgrade to it and it has new life. the original gel seals wore out. 350.00 total invested and it works as good as some of the noise canceling sets out there, no complaints from me!!!

cencal makes pretty nice bags.

i would recommend you get a kneeboard. i have "the flightboard" from LCFlight, works great and won't change it ever, http://www.lcflight.com/body_kneebrd.html. holds my checklists and a bunch of approach plates or whatever else i need along for the flight

When I was looking around at headsets a few years ago, I decided to splurge a bit and go for ANR. After some looking around I decided that LightSpeed aviation headsets offered the most for the price. I ended up with the Thirty 3G and have been very happy with it. The customer service with them is first rate too - I had to send in my headset due to a squeal in the ear, and they sent it back VERY quickly with the squeal fixed, new ear cushions, upgraded electronics, a spare pop-filter for the mic, and a spare battery cover (I'd lost one previously and they shipped it to me) - all free of charge. I've been very impressed with them.

My Dad gave me his spare David Clark 13.4's - he's had them since 1993 and they still look brand new and as was stated earlier, they're are built like a tank. I really like the DC's.

I do have the UND Avcomms that I bought from an ex-aviation student for $40 (they were in brand new condition). I use those as a spare headset for passengers, but they seem to be pretty durable.

You may want to look into Sennheisers. I tried a pair out once at Marv Golden (they main store is based out of San Diego...but it's a popular online store) and I was impressed with the build quality. I did NOT test them in the airplane so I can't say how they were up in the air... but from what other pilots say, they seem to make very nice headsets. I own two different high end home audio Sennheiser headphones and the sound and build quality on those is just impressive.

And Bose, well I won't talk about Bose... don't want to hurt anyone's feelings

You won't hurt my feelings any. I know their home audio sucks huge ones. I don't have a problem with the headset, yet. I bought them for their comfort, not the noise cancelling per say. I know telex is the best at that now.
