I just love it, its history, passion, and innovation, I can go on and on, but read some stuff about them, they have a memoabilia of their history and cars on sale at barnes and noble if not just wikipedia or google them.

The argument of driving a truck and it being insecurity is total BS. You can’t honestly believe that. What is the difference between buying a fast car or a big truck? If you’re not going to be driving in Germany any time a sports car is kind of pointless. Now if you are commuting in a city to your job at Starbucks in a pick-up truck that is pointless as well. So what it boils down to is that if you buy a nice expensive vehicle and don’t use it the way it was meant to be used for you apparently have some kind of insecurity. Sounds ridiculous, this means that people who drive nice vehicles have insecurities. That’s BS as well. The only way I think a person has insecurity and has a vehicle is if they can’t afford the high priced vehicle they are buying.
Most people in the Midwest buy trucks for function not for show. Hockey moms drive trucks and SUV’s because the only other option is a mini-van and well soccer moms have those. I also couldn’t image pulling a boat or snowmobiles with a Subaru. I have seen it and those people don’t look happy they are thinking man I wish I had a truck. Also can you imagine driving around in North Dakota with a deer on the roof of you car. Bet your hunting friends will love that.

I'm a different kind of car enthusiast. I'm more for performance and function or weight adding comfort and luxury. However, I will own a Mercedes 190E with the 2.3 liter Ford Cosworth 16valve engine someday. Those are friggen sweet!

Owning a sports car in North Dakota or any other prairie state is worthless - this is probably why your opinion is skewed, since I am guess you love North Dakota so much (nothing wrong with that ). Unless you love trucks just because you like the looks of them (which is fine), it doesn't make sense to say that you should own a truck as a sole daily driver for using it 11 months out of the year for a utility that a car can provide. Don't get me wrong...when I own a boat I'm gonna want a truck to pull it, but it's not going to be my daily driver.

First I'm not in love with North Dakota. I'm just not as bitter as the average UND aviation student.

Second the whole point of my post is just to point out that trucks are not pointless like some people believe. I just don't understand why people ridicule others for owning one. I think a land cruiser is the worst vehicle next to the H2. (personally if i were given one i would beat the hell out of it anywhere i could take it) I don't ridicule people who buy these. If you have the money to buy a car you want, buy it. North Dakotas difference from other places is that they elect to spend 35 grand on a pick up truck as opposed to 35 grand on an Audi.

You're missing everything that I've been trying to explain. Look at the capability of each new generation of trucks and suvs as they come out compared to stuff from the 70s and 80s. They flat out suck in comparison. If you want a little bit of trivia here, a 71 studdabaker could tow 12500 pounds and was a mere half ton truck. To my knowlege, only the Ford, Chevy, Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton and soon to be new Toyota 3/4 ton trucks can do that. While the capability is thankfully slowly coming back, they're still inferior to 70s and 80s trucks. There is only one reason for this like I've been saying over and over and over. People don't buy trucks for utility as much as they used to. Midwest or not, people buy trucks and SUVs more for show just as much as anywhere else. My insecurity theory might be wack, but the rest of what I'm saying is dead on.

I agree with what you're saying about sports cars and I apply exactly the same thing I've been saying about trucks in this thread to sports cars.

I agree, People who buy a truck on function are probably more of a dying breed. Most people in general wether they know it or not buy a vehicle based on their own image. Function is probably something they push to the back burner.

I think your post was really trying to say bring back the Chevy Scottsdale. Im pretty sure a scottsdale can survive napalm but can only be slowly taken down with salt.

I agree but it does have a purpose. I saw the World Series MVP on Leno the week after he won it. They gave him a Corvette but he couldn't drive a stick. Chevy was watching out for this guy when they made an automatic vette

Whether that's the case in GFK is beyond me. I think it's more of a trend than anything else. Old men buy ugly trucks just to fit in the GFK society, otherwise they're not accepted.

Actually, the with the amount of power the C5 and C6 'Vettes are putting to the ground, the auto-tranny really isn't hurting them at all. If you're not used to the way that car delivers power, it actually might help you to have both hands on the wheel. Some people are purists. I've driven both and liked both.

Now...wait'll you see the body kit for a C6 that makes it look like a '62....unbefreakinlieveable.

I'm a truck enthusiast almost as much as I'm into cars, which is why I'm so vocal on the matter here. I like how trucks look too. The new ones look awsome, but I want them to retain their abilities without having to do much modification.

get the 500E the predecessor of the E500 they were made from 1986-1995 W124 series. made several autobahn records.

The 190E with the cosworth engine is better on a race track. It was built solely to rival the M3 in... I forgot which racing series. I've never been interested in anything mercedes has made past the early 80s. The SLR turned my head when it came out, but it's still not on my list of stuff I would consider buying.

No kidding, especially because in normal city driving you probably never have to go above 1500 RPMs. Heck, you could probably just leave it in 6th gear if it was a manual. That poor LS2 would just be screaming at the top of it's lungs to go to 7 grand just once. Poor engine.

That's what my dad is for ...to clear the cobwebs out of the engine. He tries to be nice to the car though because it's his girlfriend's.
