I am on my third instructor for CFI. Now I am with a lead and I highly doubt I will have to switch anymore this semester. I can't really complain, it is good to know that people are getting hired.

We were told at one of our meetings that "IF" they were to hire for the Spring semester the hiring test would be on Reading and Review day. And, I can't remember for sure, but I thought that they said the interviews would be on Jan 3

You don't need to have pride in the Fighting Sioux to be an instructor. You should have pride for the place you work for, however. UND Aerospace, Inc, LLC, GmbH, Corp, Ltd., S.A., or whatever limited liability it filed for is a corporation - a profitable business - completely unrelated to the Univsersity of North Dakota. So... you can have pride for UND Aerospace while not having pride for your hockey team.

You can probably expect a few more instructors to leave soon, as long as Pinnacle and Piedmont keeps picking them up with 500 hrs.... pfff

I'd be a horrible sports coach for the school. You're right. Flight instructing is completely off that. I enjoy instructing, and as much as I rip on the town, there's a borderline between that and professionalism. Saying I would be a bad flight instructor here is the same as saying I would be a bad flight instructor anywhere else. Being a CFI is teaching students about aviation, not about teaching them how much GFK sucks, and how it's a POS place. If someone asks for my opinion, I'll tell them what I think of this place. I'm sure you're smart enough to understand that.

In fact, to any of you that have met me in person. You know I don't go around preaching about how much this place sucks. I will start talking about it if the topic pops up in the conversation. And even though those of you who know me, know that I'm pretty straight up in saying things, not being pussy about what I say, I still have my manners and respect to those who I'm talking to in person. I don't think I've ever gone up to a North Dakotan to tell them how much their state sucks. That's pretty rude. And if I talk a lot of #### here about this state it's because about the whole prospective student deal we've talked about maybe a million times. Besides, it's funny as hell seeing you guys getting stirred up for my silly remarks.

The first person to tell me that I won't get far with this attitude deserves to be shot.

That's all fine and good, but why carry yourself any different on here than you do in real life? Lack of consequence? I'm not getting stirred up over your remarks, I'm just pointing out that you guys sound like dicks when you do it.

We may sound like dicks, but when people ask for our opinion on this place, we give it to them with utmost honesty. We want to help people make a wise decision when choosing UND and prevent people from making mistakes in moving to a location that they won't like. That way you can say "well, we warned you".

Because there's nothing better to talk about in these forums. There's better stuff to talk about in real life than there is here which is why I won't talk about that in person unless you ask me about it or mention it. You're making assumptions on my personality based on what you read, which is totally understandable, and doesn't bother me much. Most of the people you find online that you don't get along w/ are probably those who you would really get along with in person which is why I don't let anything that is said in this forum bother me. I've met a lot of the people here, and even though I used to think they were dicks and #######s before meeting them, ended up being some of the coolest people I've met (w/o mentioning names). Though I, too, was guilty of judging others by the way they seemed to act online, I don't do that anymore since it's proven me wrong so many times, both outside of UND, and at UND. You can see it how you like. I'm sure it will happen to you one day as well.

Absolutely not. You'll find I'm one of the least caring persons with regards to that.

It's not so much a pride for your school thing as it is a positive attitude thing. You absolutely have to stay positive in the cockpit when you're instructing.

so do I. I'll be the first to say that i dont enjoy it here. But I'm respectful of the people that do. You guys seem to act like you're better than all those who do enjoy it here, or are from here, and that's just stupid.

I never said it was wrong for people to enjoy it here. For me, I just don't. The location does not fulfill my needs.

We aren't better than anyone who enjoys living here. Again, it's all about our own personal needs. Me and the others who "bitch about Grand Forks" enjoy living in civilized places and depending on one's personal definition of "civilized", Larimore may be that place! It has a couple of bars, one gas station (or two), and some people. For me, that is not a civilized location, but for others it might be. For me, Grand Forks isn't, nor is Fargo. I require a place to have authentic ethnic cuisine, this place doesn't. Hell, it doesn't even have a Norwegian restaurant! You'd think with all the Svenssons and Olsons in the phone book there would.

We will continue to bitch and moan about Grand Forks when the advice is requested by a potential student, given from a more urban perspective. You have just as much opportunity for rebuttal as we do. You can provide the rural-minded side and say this place is wonderful...or the urban-minded side and say this place is wonderful. Once again, for someone who grew up in a rural location Grand Forks may be the metropolis for them - and there is nothing wrong with that. We all grew up with different perspectives and have different NEEDS.

Now let's go have a JC UND meet sometime soon!

Remember that last time at Blue Moose I had a burger that was still moo-ing? That meat had to still be frozen inside. Yuck. And I even bit into it. You won't usually get sick from eating raw beef, but there's still potential.

How about meeting at the new indoor karting track? Or the new Grand Forks Dave & Busters?
