Default Concerts

For those interested, there will be three concerts from Thursday-Saturday.
On Thursday will be a guest pianist, Jeff Jacob. It's a piano recital. ($6)
On Friday will be the Piano Masters concert. Sergio Gallo will be one of the two playing. ($3 for students I think)
And on Saturday will be the Grand Forks Symphony playing.

I'm thinking of going to all three. Just letting you guys know about it in case you were interested.

You know I would've gone, but I'll be in California ...oh wait, why a sad face?

Sad face, perhaps, 'cause you won't see Sergio?

Sergio is going to be good. Ya'll should go to the Wind Ensemble as well on Oct. 5th. Wish I could go. It'll be my first time not performing with them in 5 years

What'd you play? Saxophone?

Yeah you typically associate the Fighting SYE-OX and Native Americans playing the saxophone.

Which sax do you play? I'm a baratone sax player myself. That thing was NOT fun in marching band at first(as you can imagine ) and concert band was kinda boring at time since I was just playing tuba parts. However, jazz band was a blast on that thing.

I was strictly on alto since 6th grade. A little soprano when I got lucky. I simply refused to play tenor or bari in a concert. Not as good parts, never heard. Not to boast but I was good, so I was picky.

Oh gawd, I felt so sorry for the bari sax players in marching band. I was in Jazz Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, and had a jazz quintet for extra cash (non-school related)...so I was way busy with band in high school. At my school Marching Band was required if you were in Jazz Band, but in my senior year I convinced my band instructor to waive the requirement. For Marching Band I quickly realized how great it was to be in the "pit" (pit crew) for marching band. While the band was out marching and learning the new positions in the football field for the field shows in 90 degree weather, us Pit people would sit on our asses learning the music. I played keyboards (mainly just the samplers for sound effects for the show's theme) and whatever percussion instrument we dragged out there (vibes, marimba, steel drums). We'd have to haul the keyboard to the football field and we'd use a generator or whatever available outdoor power for the keyboards and PA system.

Aaaah.......band memories.

Yeah, actually if you play real music, its not so bad. I actually prefered concert over jazz band and if ya'll were good, there's good stuff out there. Another reason I was trained for classical sax, so that was my specialty.
I remember the good ole marching band days. Got to be drum major in high school, section leader for the "Pride of the North." Definetly worth doing band in college as I got sick of the prop head talk all the time. Not to mention, there's just too many males in the aviation dept.

It was like night and day comparing what I played in concert band to jazz band. My skill definitly would have deteriorate drastically if it weren't for jazz band. I'm opposite of you though. I liked jazz band more than concert band. Obviously, hehe. I did like concert band when I played alto.
