Default Sprint--cell phone

I know this topic has been discussed before...but I've never had a cell phone before and so i want to make sure im making the right decision--esp. because im going to be locked into a 2 year contract...

So i think im going to go w/ sprint...they seem to be the cheapes (30 bux for 200 minutes and free nights/weekends that start at 7pm)

what do you guys think?--I cant afford much more than that but if you guys know of other companies that i should go with please lemme know

peace, bauer

I like Sprint. I get a lot for $40/month. 400 minutes, 7 p.m. nights and weekends, free roaming, free long distance, free Sprint-Sprint minutes, and for some reason I started getting free unlimited text messages too.

I've been with Verizon Wireless for a few years now and I never had any problems. I think most people at UND are with Verizon.

there's a reason why sprint is so cheap...don't be fooled by "no roaming"...this is a carrot that just means no roaming on their network - only the expensive plans ($60, 70, 80+) offer true no roaming on any cell tower.

Sprint's coverage:
http://www1.sprintpcs.com/media/Asse...int_663903.gif

the light green area is the digital/analog roaming area - where you pay $0.45/minute to make calls. that makes up about what, 70%+ of the US??? and another thing...why all the confusing, look-alike colors?

Verizon's Coverage:
http://cache.vzw.com/images_b2c/maps...st/wabalva.gif

almost the entire us is covered, and the places that aren't you can't make calls so no additional roaming charges. 3 colors - red is digital, pink is analong (but not roaming) and white is no service.

$10/month more for 250 more minutes and you can actually use them without paying another $0.45/min. 1 year contracts available.

Cingular is good too, they have great coverage, on par or better than VZW.

Sprint and Verizon work very good in North Dakota. Any other companies SUCK.

Watch your minutes if you're getting a 400 minute a month plan. 400 minutes goes by fast in one month. I found out the hard way in 1999 ($400 cell phone bill).

I think Sprint is spotty out at flight ops (at least from what I can remember from one of my old instructors who had Sprint). Most people seem to think Verizon works the best around GFK -- and it seems to work best EVERYWHERE. It costs *slightly* more than other companies, but i think it is worth it.

If you go five miles out of town with sprint, you wont have signal. Think long and hard before you go with sprint.

The only place I've had issues with verizon is in the cubical area at the airport. It's been just perfect otherwise.

Remember, dont get sprint if you think you might EVER want to change to a diff network in the future and take your phone with you.... or if you want to buy a phone for cheap online...(sprint phones do not use SIM cards!!)

Im on T-mobile with 600 anytime, unlimited nights/weekends, free roaming anywhere I get a signal of any kinds = 39.99

So basically with my plan it makes no difference what company I am with since with roaming, if I can get a signal from ANY company, I am free to use it.

Oh, and T-mobile's customer service rocks. Always answers on the first or second ring, native english speakers, and pretty chill reps. always competent and not pushing to sell me extra ####.

I agree with Tx aviator, T mobile offers great coverage for such a great price. And their customer service is by far the best, kind, English speaking, and does their job right with no sense of incompitance whatsoever.

Hmmm, that's wierd about TMobile. Everyone I know who has it is not able to hold a conversation because their call drops.

Hey Tom I just got back from Office Max...didn't see you working there. I was making my own approach plate binder thingy from scratch, don't wanna get raped at UND or Flight Support for their $15-18 POS haha. Mine cost $2...(used CopyMax's vinyl covers and leaf rings).

Lol, I've been home since July about the middle of July. Yeah, copymax is very reasonable for most things oddly enough. I bought one of those brown pleather ones from sporty's that looks like something someone's grandpa would give them. It was barely thick enough though. If you haven't already, get one thats more than an inch thick.

Are you using Jepp or the ASA ones? After using both, I cant stress how much better jepp is. Definitly worth the money. ASA enroute charts are better, but you can interchange the two. It's probably a good idea to try both though in different courses.
